Hopeless Website, but maybe?

I don't know any HTML or XML. And I probably won't ever understand the crap, but I want this type of layout in my site.

I know, this isn't skin related. But this is the forum I reside in.

What do you think? Is black and white good?

dam 15th June 2002 20:34

The pic was rather small. From what i could make out it looks kool.

Cleanup 15th June 2002 20:35

It's supposed to be small. This well be centred in the page, if I even make it.

FooMonkey 15th June 2002 20:41

is that text above and below supposed to be readable?:weird:

Cleanup 15th June 2002 20:48

Yes, unfortunately. :( Lol. I'll try and find some way to make it larger.

dude883 15th June 2002 20:54

double the size of the text. needs more color, like in your sig and maybe your avatar as a logo... html is easy, shouldn't take you too long to learn it. or ask someone to do the coding for you.

FooMonkey 15th June 2002 20:58

I think you might wanna do that..
even after utting my face half an inch from the screen the only one I could make out was 'skins'

Reanimation 15th June 2002 21:02

It looks alright. HTML is quite easy, in learning it now, XML is easy too!

am i the only one that can read the text then? :weird:

BlueBalls 15th June 2002 21:12

i can read it, it look cool Cleanup ;)

keep it up

gsx 15th June 2002 21:26

im helping atmo with his page right now, if you can get me a png or other of your site, just an SS, and you want me to code it... i can do it for ya if you like. Just tell me what you want to strech/ separate images/ buttons... etc.

PS: Caz, check ur pm's i send u an answer to your request a few days ago

Looks like a good idea, but I think it's very...well, white.

Your text reminds me of my Tetanus text, btw (not accusing you of anything :D). Cool, though

yes, but unfortunatly, it is pretty useless on websites. i put up a table from an xml file on my website and only people with ie6 can view it. it doesn't even show up with the latest version of netscape. :(

cleanup: if you need help with coding, feel free to ask. its really easy!

BlueBalls 16th June 2002 00:07

MM, I'll help you code it if you need me to, i got Dreamweaver so its REAL easy, ;)

[EDIT]
rather not get in trouble for the assumptions of others
[/EDIT]

_Blackdog_ 16th June 2002 00:09

you dont need dreamweaver. from what i hear, the only reason to use dreamweaver is if you're too lazy to do your own css

skinme! 16th June 2002 01:31

BlueBalls, that's illegal. AOL is 'big business' and as such don't like to see 'little people' 'ripping off' 'big business' be it Macromedia or AOL or what. Thus, warez is not tolerated in these forums.

BlueBalls 16th June 2002 01:39

who said anything about warez? i have the evaluation version for all you know, please dont assume things, im not a criminal, thanks.

skinme! 16th June 2002 01:47

/me thinks if you were talking about the evaluation version, you would have linked to the evaluation download at macromedia.com and saved yourself some uploading.

BlueBalls 16th June 2002 01:48

you know what they say about assumptions dont you skinme! ?

skinme! 16th June 2002 02:01

If you state that you honestly was referring to the evaluation copy, I will apologise no-questions-asked and revoke my assumptions.

This was never a telling off - you're new to this forum and there are unspoken rules (tell me if they're written down... coz I've never seen them) - and I'll be downloading your skin no matter what.

Cleanup 16th June 2002 03:06

Actually, I do have Dreamweaver. MX and UltraDev4. But I haven't really looked at it yet...

Should I?

gsx 16th June 2002 03:44

no, notepad and html are the simplest

J_Bloggs 16th June 2002 08:34

I'll code it if you want, I don't have the skills to make anything decent to put on a website, but I can code one. I can even get you a half decent demain to put it on, if you don't have one. I should be doing schoolwork, but, thats boring.

i use html-kit, free, at download.com. it has code-tidying things, supports php, xml, html (duh) and other things i can't remember, but it's the photoshop of the internet coding world, to use it properly you a)need to know what you are doing and b)use tooltips :)

J_Bloggs 16th June 2002 09:07

Notpad isn't 'beefy' enough, I use arachnophilia.

Atmo 16th June 2002 09:25

Html kit is great...But i still use notepad 90% of the time...

Jellby 16th June 2002 10:46

I use ultraedit, but just because it has better find&replace than notepad, and it opens files larger than 64K ;)

skinme! 16th June 2002 12:31

/me dislikes Dreamweaver due to its WYSIWYG interface.

/me uses HTML-Kit because:
  • MDI
  • It can do boring shit like DOCTYPEs for you
  • It has plug-ins, such as spell check, thesaurus, TIDY, HTML + CSS validators
  • You can save code snippets for use later
  • It's Notepad, but with thendier clothes
  • Um, I'm done.

/me stills holds true to my post, BlueBalls...

Notepad for 2000/XP handles files larger than 64k.

Jellby 16th June 2002 12:54

Hmmm... I still prefer to use ultraedit than to go through the hassle of installing a new version of our beloved windows... ;)

BlueBalls 16th June 2002 13:11

heh, i was sleeping, i wasn't talking about the evaluation and for that I would liek to be the one to apologize, I didn't know that it was such a sensitive topic and im sorry for breaking the rules, it wont happen again.

dam 16th June 2002 13:55

Back on topic : Cleanup any updates?

simon snowflake 16th June 2002 14:11

from what i've read about it, XML should be compattable even with older explorers.
But I can be totally wrong, because I am STUPID:igor:

skinme! 16th June 2002 14:43

/me wants to code in XML so I can have a <THISISNOTATAG> tag.

Forevever 16th June 2002 14:46

Blackdog - there's another reason to use DreamWeaver - if your boss makes you...

I've always written all of my pages in notepad until recently - then I was asked by someone to learn DreamWeaver - if I didn't, he wouldn't hire me

at first I was dead against it - I like the control I have over my pages using notepad - its easier for me to read the HTML coding and edit it that way - unfortunately he wouldn't go for it

But I decided to keep an open mind and try it out
So I went ahead and downloaded DreamWeaver - and I learned that using NOTEPAD is like using MSPaint (vs. adobeps or jascpsp) to make a skin

Sure DreamWeaver does a lot of the work for me - but I can spit out a page in about 25% of the time it used to take me to spit out a page

Proof that everything is easier if you have the proper tools

Plus - with DreamWeaver, so far, it appears to me that the code is cleaner and the pages load faster and if I need to go in and actually edit the coding (like if I want to use custom javascripts) I can still do that with DreamWeaver - you can look at the page and type in the coding at the same time - which has some nice benefits

Don't get me wrong - I still love notepad - but DreamWeaver cuts the work down dramatically - and if you already write pages in notepad and are HTML fluent then that just makes DreamWeaver that much easier to use (even if it does seem to eat up my resources after running for a while)

I'm in the process of rewriting my entire website using DreamWeaver (just to get the hang of it)

And for the record - a majority of MP3's floating around out there are illegal - so I would suggest no one attack anyone for downloading anything

Just don't go announcing that you've downloaded DreamWeaver (or any other warez for that matter) - not because I think you'd get into trouble (although you might), but because some people like to appear "righteous" and will attempt to put you in your place - even if they do it too

If you feel the need or want to help someone out in an "illegal" type of way - use the Private Message feature - save yourself some grief

PeaceMaker 16th June 2002 15:01

i got myself a copy of dreamweaver 4 ;) but its in german :( i cant read german.. lol.

the old html/notepad combo works alright for now, i got that extra 75% more time to design something drastic.

Reanimation 16th June 2002 15:15

I think when you've learned one form of script most of the others just seen to fall into place, I mean there simular in ways, like i'm learning VB, HTML and gonna look at PHP and sofar VB and HTML are pretty easy and it all just seems simple.

BlueBalls 16th June 2002 15:33

i love dreamweaver just because you can see your progress without uploading it and all that junk, in suchits faster, and i find it easier, because if you screw up in dreamweaver it will highlight what you did wrong, so you can find it and fix it, with notepad you need to search for it which, sometimes, can take you about 5 minutes, but im disorganized so i need dreamweaver, im not about to put things so i can find them, what sense would that make? ;)

This is clearly directed at me so I may as well respond.

I was not telling him off for offering to upload Dreamweaver for Cleanup. I was warning him that in these forums, it is not allowed and will be viewed upon very seriously. I am not trying to appear "righteous" - I even offered to apologise and revoke my comments if they were unnecessary and asummptious.

I would not like to state the contents of my hard drive and not only because there is a lot of very personal stuff on there. I'm sure I'm not entirely innocent.

I was trying to save BlueBalls some bother from the moderators by warning him that such activity is not welcome on these forums.

PeaceMaker 16th June 2002 16:03

can we get over the accusing.. im sick of reading the bs.
