anything good

hmm... maybe its just me... but is there any good music out there, that isnt like everything else... :D, i might get unlazy and go buy a cd... but everything sounds the same... oh well... me and my dumb questions...

incubus*chick 16th June 2002 04:16

....uh?

What have YOU been listening to?

Daemoniac 16th June 2002 04:22

oh yeah... that would help right... heh... i listen to everything from lifehouse/train to slipknot/system of a down, techno, punk, classical, soundtrack etc... everything but backstreet boys type pop (cause it sucks), rap... or country (definate no)

deadrabbit 16th June 2002 04:33

try listening to the residents.

The lyrics to country songs are actually very entertaining. They've got storytelling down to an art (although I can't stand that twangy sound). Explore your horizons... check out Radio Free Virgin's channel "Liquid Lounge". All the stuff on there is unique. Also, classical music with a modern edge... movie soundtracks are good for that. Especially Hans Zimmer. Music originating from the Deep South also has a great deal of originality... blues, ragtime, jazz. You might want to check out jazz fusion, or electric jazz. I can guarantee you that there is nothing on earth quite like it. For a soulful beat, bossa nova will definitely get your body moving. Bossa nova is more related to the latin beat... try various tango and samba rhythms. Finally, as an antithesis to jazz, give a listen to lounge (I believe someone on the Nullsoft crew has a lounge shoutcast station) and big band orchestral (swing).

A general note: instrumental music tends to be more complex. original, and dynamic then vocal

incubus*chick 16th June 2002 04:37

yes, I AM crazy....

what do you not like about it? Try exploring more into the types of music you already like or even try listening to a completly different genre.

As an avid alternative listener, I suggest Third Eye Blind and incubus (of course) for some finger-licking good music. Hmmmm....Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer, Better Than Ezra, Linkin Park, Hoobastank, Audiovent, Pixies, Nada Surf, Dashboard Confessional, Buzzcocks, Bush, and Blur, are good too. OK, I'll stop now... ( )

[edit] and Bishop Allen! I've only heard 2 of their songs, but I like em [/edit]
[edit again] Listen to rm'. He knows what he's talking about. Usually... [/edit]

Good idea about buying the CD's. I usually download some of the songs from the CD's before I buy them though, just to make sure it's worth it.

Dashboard Confessional is mostly accoustic kinda stuff and not too shabby. I was listening to the digital cable music channel thing and it played a song by them so I went on KaZaA (Lite) and downloaded more stuff by em. The song I first heard wasn't as good as the others... But yeah, you should check em out.:)

Daemoniac 16th June 2002 04:59

alright then... thanks.. i like some of the acoustic based stuff... so i think i am going to go give it a try, or maybe check and see if a friend has it... but i dont know that now... heh...

incubus*chick 16th June 2002 05:17

As long as we are playing the "Obscure musical group of whom nobody has ever heard of", I nominate the Charlotte Experimental Dance Company Backup Band Singers. Although they are not very good :igor:

Huehuetenango 16th June 2002 18:16

what can i say, rm?
i like doing that, it's fun

i could go on: beta band, mystery step, shore pound, platonic man friends

actually, the first is a really good band
the other three are just bands that friends of mine have been in

Bilbo Baggins 16th June 2002 20:02

Obscure bands eh. How about Larma Obscura. That was the band I was in, although we didn't do much, we split up a month later :D
