WinAmp just stops playing mp3

I have a playlist that I always listen to and at points in time it will just stop playing an mp3 - WinAmp will just pause indefinitely (not as if you clicked the pause button, but it just stops).

This will not happen on any specific mp3 and if you stop and then press play the song will restart and usually go through fine.

ANy ideas? Anyone else see this with Winamp 3?

I see exactly the same problem, as well as issues with the quality of audio. IMO, the quality of WinAmp3 is far inferior to WinAmp2, and the fact that none of the plug-ins work is really disappointing. I tried their plug-in splice, but apparently Windows 2000 doesn't agree with it. I am NOT impressed with what has happened to WinAmp3 so far, it's sunk to the quality of AOL in general.

I gave up on Winamp3.

The problem I reported wasn't fixed. It also had another problem... when I exited WinAmp the music kept playing!

I think this software should have stayed in beta. Maybe after a few patches it might be ready.

Well, I've been through a bunch of hoops since I was last here, but I finally have quality audio and Winamp 2.8 playing just fine again. I upgraded my audio to a SB Audigy board to get rid of pops-n-clicks, wrestled with the sound stopping issue, and finally got everything put back together. I'll let others play with Winamp 3, I'm back to the the one that's always worked for me. I guess I can't see what great advances that Winamp 3 is going to give me anyway...

Known problem. Being worked on I'm sure for next release.

Known by who? Whoever "knows" about this problem didn't bother to respond to the thread!

Known by the Nullsoft development team. The WA3 development team doesn't (usually) deal with tech support.

If the development team doesn't deal with tech support, who will release the fixes then? Other team?

rm' 19th August 2002 00:40

Tech support is done on an entirely voluntary basis by members of the community. The dev team knows what's wrong with the program because they keep tabs on the Wishlist, and the WA3 General Discussions forum.

Let's see if I understand this situation.

The problem is posted, and remains unanswered here for two months, then the "forum king" comes along as says that they know about it! What happened in the intervening two months? Did anyone that knows anything about the program have an extended vacation? Why not just respond to the original poster about two months ago, or do I totally misunderstand the purpose of these forums??? Am I missing something really basic here?

Let's not bring politics into the tech support forums, ok? Don't like the answer I gave? Fine. If you think you can do a better job, why don't you:
1) Code your own media player. Or,
2) Help out with tech support instead of bitching all the time at those trying to help you. Or,
3) Learn to live with the level of service you are getting. Bitching at those trying to help does nobody any good. Remember: this is freeware. Nullsoft is not obligated to provide you with anything. They could have just pushed this product out the door, without any support whatsoever, without any intention of fixing bugs, and left it at that. At least they have a forum system where others can provide tech support.

I know this isn't the specific responsibility of "The forum king" to deal with these issues specifically.

However, it's pretty much bunk to say that NullSoft doesn't owe us anything.. you are right that we do not pay for the product DIRECTLY, but we do INDIRECTLY.

Nullsoft exists to make money like any other company, but they get their money from advertisements. Companies want to advertise with NullSoft because USERs like us USE the product and go to their website!!

If we don't go to their website or use their product - POOF advertisers don't like posting adds where people won't see them!

Don't give me this love it or leave it crap.

The fact is, these are major issues with the product - issues that are preventing users from using your software and possibly looking elsewhere.

If developers are not paying attention to this board, then that is a problem since this is where customers are telling them what is important - and YES it is US ** NULLSOFT's CUSTOMERS ** who are the ones who the developers create the product for!

I appreciate your help, but we are trying to get some real information here about a product we do like and some information on how the communication process works with NullSoft and such. I don't think that is too much to ask.

I did work in technical support for a software company and I currently work in the product development team for that very company, so I do understand that no software product is without bugs, I just don't know why these issues were not seen as showstoppers and were not even acknowledged to your customers.

I don't think gunrunnerjohn was trying to bring "politics" into this forum at all.

Anyways, I have to get some sleep tonight, so thank you whoever posted to this forum for whatever useful information and opinions were posted - and now I step off my soap box!

Good Night!
