Editing someones Skin
hi i just wanted to know if i can edit someones skin? The only thing i would want to edit is the color of the font in the playlist. How can i do it please help thanks. :D
|
Are you asking for graphical help or are you asking if you need to ask premission to do so?
In any case, always ask for premission from the creator. (If you're going to re-publish it -- You should Really ask for premission. If it's for personal use, none would really care, I think). |
warning: if you do this and publish it at www.winamp.com (or anywhere else for that matter) i will find where you live.
rename the skin.wsz to a skin.zip then open it with a zip program (like winzip. use google. i can't be bothered with links). change pledit.txt, it uses hex colour codes (again, use google). |
im not asking for the permission of the creator and plus im not going to post the skin in www.winamp.com anywayz. Its just that the creator made the font in the playlist the wrong color. So i want to change it?...instead of green i want to change it to red. So how can i change just the color? Thanks and please help:up:
|
Well, i dont see how he made it the "wrong" color, but if its just for your personal use and you're not going to submit it anywhere as your own work, thats fine.
|
just open pledit.txt, as binary hero said, and change:
Normal=#ff0000 -> Normal=#00ff00 or whatever |

Read your replies, it helps so much :p |
Actually, its not always necessary to change the extension to zip. I just right click and choose open with winzip. However it may be an XP only feature, its been that long since i used 9x for anything other than games i cant remember.
|
It must be a XP only thing, coz I've tryed opening .wsz file with winzip on my 98', it tells me that it isn't a vaild zip file.
|
with win98 I can open .wsz files with winzip and extract files from it (shift+right click->'open with', or better: create a new action for .wsz files which is 'open with winzip'). But I can't modify them (update or add files inside .wsz), so I have to rename it to zip.
|
I just tried it, and it works in Win 2000 Pro
DEEZNUTTZ619, those figures in pledit.txt are red, green, and blue values in hexadecimal format. Use the windows calculator in scientific mode to convert normal numbers into decimal numbers. each value (red, green & blue) can go from 0 (darkest) to 255 (lightest). In Hexadecimal, this is from 00 to FF. |
I have Windows ME and I can right click and "open with" - although I can't say its a default setting since a long time ago I manually associated the *.wsz extension to open with Winzip
|
All I do to open .wsz files is I open WinZip, and I click on the button that says open, and I open the .wsz file, and it works fine on my computer. BTW, I use Windows 98.
|
But the thing i want to know is how to change the font color on the playlist?..you know how in the <Base Skin> the color of the font in the playlist is green. See when you add a song to the playlist its color green. And i want to know how can i change the font color in the playlist from green to red. Please someone help me. And that pledit.txt i dont see anywayz. So i hope that helps my problem more specific. Thanks :-)

pledit.txt should be there...if its not, then download the one i attached and copy it into the skins directory. Note that it will just be black, you'll have to edit it to your liking. ;)

Sorry, I didn't understand what u said! My Bad! Atmos should describe it.

The file's got a few things you can edit: normalBG (background) normal (font colour) current (font colour of the song that's currently playing) and so on. For each thing, you type in a 6-digit number. Open a paint program such as MS-Paint. Choose the colour that you want, and see what its RED, GREEN, and BLUE values are. Then turn these values into HEX (as I described above) For example, ...... ------screw it, I'll just draw you a picture. I hope this suffices, cos I ain't drawing another one. Click the blue attachment just below and see the picture |
Open notepad
write (or copypaste): code: save the file as "pledit.txt" add the file to the skin .zip (you may have to rename the file from .wsz to .zip to be able to add files with winzip). Now the skin has red (FF0000) text with black (000000) background. The song currently playing is white (FFFFFF) while the background of the selected (highlighted) song is green (00FF00). The font used is "Arial", the url in the minibrowser has red text and black background too. You still don't know how to specify a colour? The numbers after the # are RRGGBB, where RR is the amount of red (from 00 to FF, hexadecimal; 00=0, FF=256), GG is the amount of green and BB is the amount of blue. No colour (000000) is black, full colour (FFFFFF) is white. Experiment. [edit]Argh![/edit] |
So, DEEZNUTTZ619, you thought "I'll just go and ask how to change the letters to red. How hard can it be?", eh? 1,129 words later (counted them in Word).... hehe :D Welcome to the skinlove forum ;)
Actually, when you do it once, you'll see that's it's very easy) |

Here you go.
1. Download the attachment 2. Open up winzip, or any .zip file and then open up the .wsz file 3. Click add, add the pledit.txt Done. The problem was he didn't include a pledit.text, so it was just winamp's normal playlist colors. |
