Can play CDs but not MP3s

I have a strange one: Winamp 2.8 will play my audio CDs, but when I try to play an MP3, it looks like it's playing, but I get no audio. Nothing is muted in my sound controls, and MP3 files are associated with Winamp. Does anyone have any ideas?

1) Make sure WaveOut or DirectSound Output is selected in:
Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Plugins -> Output
2) Make sure the volume slider in the main winamp window is up high enough.
