I was trying to make a metalic texture cuz every time I try I don't get anywhere close to metal, but I think I got something good this time:eek:
anyway, tell me what you think I probably won't continue it in this skin, but I will in one soon I think if I get a chance school sucks |
yeah, looks like brushed metal.
The blurry edge is a bit strange though. What program did you use? Pain(t)? |
if you use photosop i can tell you hwo to make pretty okay metal
make a new layer, make a gradient with light grey at the top and dark grey at the bottom load the selection (ctrl+click the layer) and add Noise; amount varies on the size of the selection then filters>blue>blur theres some nice metal, its not the best but it isnt bad, i used that on my new skin, then just added black lines on a new layer with white lines offset 1 to the left and 1 down (1 in pixels) and gave the layer softlight for the inset lines. :) |
Hey, looks like metal, but i think its smudged a bit awkwordly... (how tha fuck do you spell that?)
|
Awkwardly. ;)
Anyways, i like it...IMO its a tad blurry though. Blueballs: To achieve a brushed metal look, a motion blur is much better than a standard blur after adding noise. |
really?
thats awkward ( i felt left out) yea buts thats if u want it o look almost like a crosshatch right? |
I used PSP
and I think I did it in a way that is pretty...unconventional (?) I guess for a brushed metal.. I made the shape white then a small black airbrush on the edges, and a larger gray that covered some in the center then I created a new layer on top of that and contracted the selection, filled it with white, then gaussian blurred it I merged the layers then did a motion blur I think I wasn't orriginally going for a brushed metal, just a metal frame yeah, I noticed it is a bit blurry...it looked better on my other, crappy computer... |
Thats kinda the way i used to do it. Make a light grey base shape, then airbrush black for shadows, and white for highlights. Then i started to play arround with layer styles (bevel and emboss). I often do that first, then finish off with the airbrush. Seems to give a more 3D effect. This way its much faster... i have been using it for my new site design. I dont mean to steal your thread but for those of you who wana see what im talking about click here
|
the learning curve is very steep (spelling)
but you sure are getting there  Awkward (could not stay behind) way but a nice result |
Looks like blurred brushed metal to me.
Theres so set way to do anything foomonkey so I dont think you can call your way unconvential. |

darn...I liked thinking of myself as a rebel;-)
I did some stuff with it... I sharpened the metal a bit and started the buttons I think I'll finish it. I kinda like it I also got rid of the green glow that was on the metal. I'm gonna redo it, but it won't be as prominent |
oooo, much better now, me likey :)
nice job |
The texture looks better...but the buttons look a little strange.
|
well I kinda really like the buttons :X
I thought the parts on the metal look neat and I have special plans for the shuffle button I'm treating it like 2 seperate buttons...1 for shuffle, 1 for linear (or whatever you call it when it's not on shuffle) |
...straight? :)
|
non random?

here's an update
do you think I'm overkilling the circles? that's kinda what I'm going for I think I'll call it Circular Overkill |
if I look at the title of the attachement, it seems you call it something very diffrent. lol
You could use that circular thing thats going on in the display for a Orb skin. I like that |
I like the circles, but I'm not sure about that orange.
