ah Pish the man of a thousand links.

I'd use Winamp or CDex or some other stand alone program to convert MP3 to WAV files so that when you make an audio CD, you listen to the songs.

Then I'd use Nero or Roxio EZ CD Creator to make my CD's.

Aeroe 10th July 2002 21:09

if the mp3 is 256bps+ i just use those and don't bother converting the songs. it does it on the fly with nero, adaptec/roxio, nti and etc.
winamp shouldn't become the all-in-one tool for everything audio. it'd become bloated, updates would be slow and bugs would burden the functionality.

i rather use a few tools that specialize in the task imo.

All true. Remember the old phrase: "Jack of all trades; master of none"

Use Winamp to play your mp3s, EAC or CDEx to rip your CDs, LAME to encode your mp3s (will work hand-in-hand with EAC or CDEx), and uninstall MMJB immediately. It may take a little while to set up, but it is incredibly fluid to use once working. If I want to rip a CD, I insert it, click on EAC, click on the CDDB icon to get the artist/track info from the net, click on the mp3 icon and 20 minutes later the encoded album is sat on my hard drive.

And I don't see a single advert in the entire process. :D

Aye!
And more than a wee Jolly is me bonnie WinAmp.
I don't expect my car stereo to burn anything, and the thing cost plenty as opposed to the cost of me bonnie wee Winamp which cost me naught, and has brought me more hours of intense aural pleasure....it's almost like aural sex...or is that sax, oh well...onward.
My computer won't vacuum my carpets!
ARRRR!!!!!
When will we get something that will do it all?
Never works for me.
Things which try to be all things to all people have a miserable track record of failing to impress anyone with any of it's functions.
Mr. Data is handy, but you still have to go to the holodeck to fulfill your fantasies....well, unless they have something to do with sex with androids...in which case Data's quarters are down the corridor.
Winamp does stuff it was meant for better than anything else in the world (just my humble opinion).
I can burn with Nero, or Easy CD, or any of about a half dozen other pieces of software on my machine (I'm in the business, so I try practicaly everything in order to be able to recommend proggies to my customers).
Winamp, fair Winamp,
How do I love thee....let me count the ways....
Uh, sorry....I waxed rhapsodic there for a minute.

Yes you can, with the appropriate plugins. But a better job is done using CDex and Nero

Things like musicmatch are designed for people with no computer knowledge at all - if you're not comfortable with how files and directories work and can be organized then you should use it.

Otherwise it's far better to have a number of specialist programs that are good at what they do, than one piece of software (like musicmatch, or windows media player 8) that is bloated, slow (as it has to load up all parts of the software, even when you just want to listen to a CD or mp3), and not as feature rich...

The choice is entirely yours...

i play my mp3's winamp, i rip my cd's with winamp, i encode my ripped cd's with winamp, i burn cd's with winamp (done it two times).

i love winamp
