How much TV do you watch per day?
It should be no surprise that children who watch too much TV suck at school, but when the results are presented visually on a graph, it makes far more impact.
Results from the Nation's Report Card show an almost linear relationship between 12th-graders' science scores and the number of hours they spend watching TV per day. Negative or positive slope? Take your pick. :p The trend is not so obvious for 8th and 4th graders, though. (Links are available through the 12th-graders' page.) How much TV do you watch? Does it make you dumb? |
we dont have tv. actually, i cant remember the last time we had one.
|
i have a tv in my room, but the cable died months ago. i'm too lazy to try to rewire it, and besides, ever since i got broadband 2 years ago, who needs tv?
|
I hardly watch any, but my wife is hooked on all those home improvement shows, especially the awful "Trading Spaces" - ugh!
But you gotta watch South Park... |
I don't have a TV either.
|
Just one a week for star trek, and the occasional documentary. But most of the time star trek is cancelled to make way for “more important sporting broad casts” so I usually only watch an hour a week.
|
anywhere between 6 and 12 hours a day. its summer and schools out :) and part time is part time not full time so the more time the better.
and of course there are the 13 computer lan parties every friday at netwerk games which is 12 hours of computer gaming. then an hour of transitportation and 12 hours of tv then sleep then wake up then work. |

Same here, except for Sumo, and Unlimited hydroplane racing I hardly watch TV, but Mrs. Deaux loves all the home improvement shows...she even tapes em. Sometimes I do watch The Man Show (for the girls jumping on trampolines) and Southpark for spiritual reasons, Cartman is god....well, him or Kyle...probably...no wait, it could be Kenny too, I mean he just keeps rising from the dead and all, and that's a sure sign right? Of course it could be Big Gay Al considering the fact that my Big Gay Al winamp skin has been downloaded more than any of my other skins. |
The History Channel- where Hitler comes alive!

I couldn't really quantify how much TV I watch per day. However, the only times of the day when I actually watch it are during dinner and sometimes in the evening (only if something really good is airing). The fact is that now, I'm spending more time on my computer or my PS2 than watching the TV. :D
|
Seer, don't you at least make enough time for "The Price is Right"?:p :blah:

Besides, after going through these horrible themes you wanted, I'm vaccinated for good against this show :D ;) |
How could you insult classic games like "Plinko" like that? :(
;) |
i watch a lot of tv, but i mostly watch tv at night, better things go on at night (i don't have any pr0n channels if y'all think that)
|
A couple of hours a day, at most. Anything I want to watch that badly, I download.
|
i only watch south park and the man show. everything else is utterly irrelevant to my life.
|
i never watch tv

Telioviosion? What is thees Telioviosion?
No but seriously, I try to watch The Simpsons everyy nite and on the weekends a little bit of Howard Stern at 11, but usually I'm too tired. Saturdays/Sundays I go to the beach, and maybe watch a movies or two or three. Maybe a Biography or a History channel "Mysteries of the Ancient Mosquito farms" bs or whatever. But maybe ten hours a week, and that's pushing it. |
I watch tv abuot half an hour per week, on average. That's because I don't have a TV here (Germany), though. When I'm at school in Mississippi, I watch . . . hmm . . . actually, not much more. An hour a week? I balance that out by wasting my life online. :)
|
I don't watch tv that much, half hour a day or less. I'm usually on the computer, playing video games, outside, or reading.
|
of course if you are in school and watching tv 6 hours per day, your scores will be shitty. at school for 6 hours, then tv till bed. kill those parents.
i watch simpsons and seinfeld a few days out of the week.. used to watch x-files but no longer *sniff*. i'm like lain, on the comp or outside most of the time :) |
I usually get in an hour or two a night. I watch star trek or the simpsons or south park. on occasion I'll watch the history channel or TLC or the discovery channel, but only if they have something good on.
|
I spend to much time on line, don't have time for TV, and when i do im playing on my X-Box, Or see a DVD. I have no idea whats on tv. and beside having 100 channels my GF only channel swaps and never ends up watching one show. so i don't care
|
I watch more TV now I have got cable and am getting dumber every day :D
|
I also spend so mch time on my computer, outside, or reading that I never really watch TV. The only shows I make a point to watch are the Simpsons and Southpark.
I wish I still got TechTV :( |

Does staring at the TV while I play a video game count?
I only watch about 2 hours a day. Most of my TV time comes at night though, that time when all the "good stuff" comes on, if you know what I mean! :p Really though, I never do have much time to watch the boob tube, unless something good is on like The Man Show or some local public access show (I Eat Poop in my case). The rest of my time is just out driving, skateboarding, playing PS2, or wasting time on the computer. |
I watch about 2 hours of TV right now every day (b/c of school). Normal school weekends I will watch about 4 ours on Saturday and Sunday each, but my grades are quite good. I dont think TV makes me dumb.
BTW - I mostly watch educational stuff like TechTV (Screensavers, Big Thinkers, Tech Live, etc..) and very little of that non-education TechTV stuff like EyeDrops. |

I've noticed a gradual dumbening down of myself over the years, as my TV hours have increased. But let's not forget; if TV is the only thing in your life, of course you will grow up to be stupid. TV only represents one viewpoint. People cannot function on one view of the world alone. Make no mistake, though, it IS a valuable viewpoint. If you include other things in your life, such as reading, writing, music, community activity, and such and such, TV can help to vastly increase your knowledge of the world. |
About 10 hrs a week, with 1/2 of that being either local news, Headline News, or sportscentre. The only shows I hold any loyalty to is the Man Show, Jackass (if that's even on anymore), and the occassional techtv show.
|
I'll also add that I'm the only kid that I know who watches CNN more than MTV :D
|
But how much C-Span do you watch? :)
|
Oh right... this is pretty much the "What do you watch?" thread, isn't it? I mainly watch movies on Showcase and Bravo. I used to watch Wild On a lot... stopped for some reason. Only two shows I watch religiously: Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and the Bravo music countdown. First is THE best spot on TV for humor, and the second is THE best spot on TV for music. I also watched Politically Incorrect (THE best spot for political insight) until it was cancelled. I also watch music specials on Bravo, or various historical programs on the History Channel whenever I come across them. And the Croc Hunter.... wholesome fun :) Junkyard Wars on TLC is also fun :D
For music, Bravo, of course, but I also watch Much More Music. Essentially VH1 for canucks. That all amounts to roughly 2 hours of focussed television viewing... I've managed upwards of 10 hours on a daily basis (of stretches in excess of 1 week) when I'm just zonked out, with the TV on, but not really paying attention to anything. |

Homer: It's always in the last place you look for it. |
i watch voyager every night (or morning) at midinight on weekdays, and other times, if i feel like it, i watch tv. shows include, but are not limited to, friends, spin city, simpsons, and just shoot me.
on the weekends, there's hardly anything decent to watch, because i haven't got cable, so i just watch whatever happens to be on, if its interesting or if i haven't missed it because i was asleep :p |

Oh well... |
All we have right now is a 13" tv; we're saving up to build our next computer. So basically I never watch tv, just stuff I've downloaded like movies, Family Guy, and South Park. We don't have cable tv, just cable 1m/256k hehehe. /me hugs her computer, strokes the monitor, and kisses the mouse.
While we were down in Biloxi, they put us up in a motel, so we had four HBO's, with nothing on any of them. For three months. Basically we watched The Man Show (I finally got my hubby to watch it, and he was like, "You mean this is what I've been missin?!" I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but that show is FUNNY). So really all I do is watch movies. I think we're at 150 movies now... not sure though, we've gotten quite a few more in the past week. We own one DVD and about 25 VHS lol. |
I watch very little TV.
Mainly Yanke stuff like Buffy, Angel. Charmed, South Park, Simpsons. TV is not that important and i could live without it |
