Lost Highway

Click the Poster for one really bloody dark skin!

It's definitely not the best skin I've ever made. It was partly a breather from a complicated, frustrating skin I'm in the process of making; partly a chance to get more fluent with the core tools of PSP, and partly to quickly satiate any Lost Highway fans out there who like black skins. :)

The reason it's so dark is because I quite like the dark, haunting image of that road. The image is totally ruined if it has bright buttons and sliders and spectrum analyzers all over it, but it looks quite good 'melting' into a black background, with very subtle buttons around it.

If you happen to like this skin, have good eyesight and a dark room, please comment on it and/or rate it. Because I have a feeling that most reviewers will slam it for being so dark :(

Very dark, but i like it. I can see it fine (i have really thick curtains so day or night my room is in a state of perpetual twilight).

Can i make one recomendation though, that is to change the scrollbars for the minibrowser. I dont think anyone would use a color scheme for windows dark enough to blend in with it, but adding this to winampb.txt would fix it right up.

code:
<STYLE type=text/css>BODY {
SCROLLBAR-FACE-COLOR: #3F3F3F;
SCROLLBAR-HIGHLIGHT-COLOR: #4F4F4F;
SCROLLBAR-SHADOW-COLOR: #2F2F2F;
SCROLLBAR-3DLIGHT-COLOR: #202020;
SCROLLBAR-ARROW-COLOR: #303030;
SCROLLBAR-TRACK-COLOR: #000000;
SCROLLBAR-DARKSHADOW-COLOR: black
}
</STYLE>

I used that for my atf skin, so the brightness levels will be wrong. Just mess with the colors till it matches the skin.

[edit] Changed the code so it didnt stretch out the window [/edit]

StillWater 16th July 2002 13:09

Oh Yeah!! That's much better - I didn't know you could do that. Thanks heaps Atmo!! :) Will go and update the skin at 1001 now...

///updated.

Atmo 16th July 2002 13:15

No probs. ;)

Just incase anyone else is thinking of using something like that in their winampb.txt and isnt sure where to put it heres an example.

code:
<html>
<head>
<STYLE type=text/css>BODY {
SCROLLBAR-FACE-COLOR: #3F3F3F;
SCROLLBAR-HIGHLIGHT-COLOR: #4F4F4F;
SCROLLBAR-SHADOW-COLOR: #2F2F2F;
SCROLLBAR-3DLIGHT-COLOR: #202020;
SCROLLBAR-ARROW-COLOR: #303030;
SCROLLBAR-TRACK-COLOR: #000000;
SCROLLBAR-DARKSHADOW-COLOR: black
}
</STYLE>
<BODY>
</body>
</html>

you forgot the </head>;)

very nice skin
although it is dark, everything is easy to see, so it is pretty easy to use

was about to say that :D hihi

Atmo 16th July 2002 14:46

Actually, try using that (without the </head>).

I tested it before posting, and it still works.

IE seems to work fine even without closing tags...Other browsers (netscape in particular) have major issues.

Axlar 16th July 2002 14:47

yeah.. like IE dont need </p> tags either.. it works fine without them.. dont know how it looks in the other browsers though :confused:

Heh...sure is. ;)

Especially when its connected to a nice </body> :D

Omnitarian 16th July 2002 17:57

You might want to check out the 'Load' Cbutton.

This is indeed the darkest skin I've ever seen, but I can't complain since that was the idea.

I saw that one coming from a mile away - the only question was if Mr. J would get to it first...

Talk about a "coalmine" of a skin! Nice work dbleja.

CRAP! I saw that about halfway through the skin, and kept it in mind for ages, but obviously, by the end, I totally forgot about it.

spacefem 17th July 2002 15:32

nice skin. I absolutely adore the Lost Highway soundtrack, never saw the movie (that's kinda freakish, I know) so maybe I'll try to track it down this weekend.

StillWater 17th July 2002 17:58

I had the soundtrack for months before seeing the film, and I loved it too - it was one of my most played CDs. I suggest you see the film, spacefem, because even though I was so familiar with the music, I appreciated the soundtrack so much more after knowing what part of the film each piece of music was illustrating.

Mr_Tough_Guy 17th July 2002 18:29

nice one, really fit's the movie, though as lynch movies go Lost Highway is probably one of my least favourite, still pretty good skin though

StillWater 17th July 2002 18:35

deja vu! (just read your comment at 1001)

On a side note, do animated winamp cursors flicker for you guys? They do on my computer, and always have. Am I the only one? And does anyone know how to prevent them from flickering?

Mr_Tough_Guy 17th July 2002 18:39

I've never had any problems with animated cursors flickering

Hmm Ive noticed that too. Tested it on 4 pcs. The flickering seems to occur only on some areas of the main.

skinme! 19th July 2002 20:54

Hehe, I was hoping nobody had done the </head> joke. Surely ommitting </head> is good though, coz it means the head never stops. Gotta have oxygen though. CSS is sexy. CSS is bitchin. JSSS is crazy. IE is generous but others aren't. Remember with XHTML, we should all makes sure our code is well-formed. I know I am.

Nice skin... a lil' too dark for my liking but I can see that it is a well-formed (hehe) skin. And I'm not a movie buff... so I'll ignore all references to movies.

It happens all over winamp for me. All over the main, and all over the other windows :(

sHoTTiE 21st July 2002 07:51

:weird: , dunno could be just me, looks kinda plain, but maybe its cuz i have no idea what lost highway is :p

Sorry for resurrecting such an old thread, but I fiiiiiiiiiinally got around to downloading Lost Highway and I noticed something a la your Blue skin. If you crank the brightness on your monitor, there's a big, fat dark grey square in the middle of the Main window.

You may have known this. You may have known this and not cared, since 99% of the population have their monitors correctly calibrated for optimum performance and don't screw with their brightness settings on a semi-regular basis . . . .

In that case, let this thread be buried once again. And let it be known that I don't think the skin is too dark (yes, even when I skirt into 99% of the population), but rather atmospheric, in a reverse White sort of way.

:D

StillWater 6th August 2002 06:50

I've now got my monitor cranked up to 100% brightness and 100% contrast. I've spotted a couple of grey areas/pixels around the onauto and eqpl buttons, but no grey square. only if you can be stuffed, could you do a screenshot and crank up the contrast on it or something like that so that I can see it? Because I want to fix it for the benefit of other users, even though my monitor doesn't show it. By the way, the latest version is 1.2 Is that the one you've got?

Are you telling me to get stuffed? :eek: :p :D

The file name says 1.2, though the ReadMe says 1.1. I downloaded it a couple of days ago, so I'm assuming it's the former.

Can you see it now?

StillWater 6th August 2002 17:22

Please take your unbelievably acute eagle-vision and your supernova-bright monitor to my Aphex Twin skin thread and tell me what you find :D

You, with your naked eye, are seeing the difference between RGB 0,0,0 and RGB 3,5,3. I cranked up both the contrast and the brightness of my monitor to 100%, and zoomed up my main.bmp to 800% - and jacked up the contrast in my paint program. I thought you had downloaded a corrupt version, because I - with your screenshot as a reference in front of me - still couldn't see it! It was only until I cranked up the brightness in the program that I saw it. :D Amazing.

Thanks heaps, Not in Santiago. If you're interested, the fixed version (1.21 or something like that) should be up within the hour. I always try to have the version in my readme.txt up-to-date - It's strange that I let that one slip. Oh well.

Thanks, and I'm interested to hear whether you have any comments/suggestions about the Aphex Twin skin (if you don't that's cool, obviously) :)

not in santiago 6th August 2002 17:37

Hmmm . . . obviously my pluge training has careened out of control orrrrrrr I'm just a freak of nature, but it's nice to know you can be bothered to accomodate all Winamp using, brightness cranking freaks of nature. :up: :p :D

I'm still deliberating on the Aphex Twin skin. I'll post later in the day if I have time.

StillWater 7th August 2002 17:42

Version 1.3 has been uploaded - with an alternate EQMAIN.bmp for true nyctophiles. Click the skin in my sig to get it.

here you go
