Best voice?

I've seen the best guitarist and best drummer threads. What about the best voice? I personally like James Hetfield (sp?) from Metallica.

This is such a tough call to make that I'm not going to even try to make it. Although, I will tender forward the names of Sarah Brightman, Sarah MacLachlan, Nana Mouskouri, Tom Waits, Kurt Kobain and Silje Nergaard as all having tremendously versatile and beautiful voices.

Richard Ashcroft, formerly of The Verve, has a stunning voice, as does the chap out of Starsailor. There are so many candidates to choose from...

I would have to say in honor of Journey, STEVE PERRY, great singer and great voice, although if you pay attention everybody has a good voice to thier original songs, if someone else sings them they don't sound the same, and they don't give it the same feeling.

banjoe-john 2nd August 2002 23:30

Macy Gray

No... I like the voice of the lead snger of System of a Down, but I can't remember his name.

Tarja Turunen of Nightwish

Anneke van Giersbergen of The Gathering

agree with Sarah McLachlan and Dido

I also think Charlotte Church has a very pretty voice, especially for someone her age.

Guy-wise? Ummmm... Well, I dunno about Burton C. Bell from Fear Factory, his voice isn't really GOOD, but just HAUNTING. So I'll stick him on here. Same with Peter from Type O Negative.

Yes! And from that same era/genre let's not forget Judy Collins and Joan Baez.

I thought of a male singer finally (besides one of the "Three Tenors" ;) ). Aaron Neville. Great voice.
