The long-awaited boss fooling amp!
It's simple and clean - my complaint would be how hard parts of it are to see - but I guess that's the point, the harder to see, the better to blend into the background.
Your equalizer line (ok, I don't know the techno name for it) runs into your title bar, but I guess you know that - unavoidable given the size of the titlebar you are stuck with.
An excellent tool for workplace subversion.

ripe 6th August 2002 15:44

yay for boss fooling amps! :D
we need more!

nice job simon
i don't normally download unknown .exe files  ;)

it is avoidable. you can mask it by painting the higher parts of the line the same colour as the background. i did it on Quiddity to stop the line going outside the display. simon's eq would need an awful lot of masking though, there would only be about half of it left, so it's probably not worth it.

Reanimation 6th August 2002 15:49

love it! best program ive downloaded since i downloaded winamp! yey for notepad!

:p :D

simon snowflake 6th August 2002 15:52

Glad you all like it :D

It's not very original i guess, but its fun :D

StillWater 6th August 2002 16:16

regarding the eq-vis: If I were you, I'd either
a) make the upper pixels of the wavy line (those pixels which go into blue bar) dark blue or something.

or

b) crop the vis-eq out altogether

There's no way it would fool anyone (the scrolling text and the EQ bars look very suspicious even from 2 metres away). There is plenty you could do to make it more camouflaged, but I guess that's not really your intention anymore.

simon snowflake 6th August 2002 16:18

if you use it on a 21" monitor on a high resolution, you will hardly see anything but a white area when you pass by from about 2 meters

StillWater 6th August 2002 16:28

Well, I use 1152x864 res, and I've got an even smaller monitor (17" I think), and from 2 metres away, the EQ bars are very clear. Because they are vertical, they don't look anything like text, and because at 2m away not much else is very visible, they stand out even more. If you really want to make it a camouflaged amp, you should start by:

-getting rid of the blue bar on the EQ window - some light grey text there would suffice (who would ever have two tiny, seemingly empty versions of notepad stacked neatly right on top of each other, or anywhere, for that matter?). It would be much better to have one big notepad window extending from main, through EQ, to PL, instead of having 3 separate notepad windows (and the PL and MB are separate windows, but they don't look like notepad)

-getting rid of the vertical lines on the EQ - they're unnecessary anyway. Keep little markers for the extreme top and extreme bottom if you like

-removing the squares from the PL stacks. Again, unnecessary and very non-notepad looking

-not call it winamp.txt

and a couple of other things.

simon snowflake 6th August 2002 16:33

purist :(

It's 99% fun. I only use the main window at work anyhow.

/me feels a bit sad beacause of ¤db¤'s comments

lol, That's what I thought - in that case it doesn't matter. And if you only use the main window, then that's how it should be skinned (with the border at the bottom of the main, how you've got it). Do you work at some sort of telephone help desk or something?

I do know this trick, but he has text in the titlebar, and the titlebar is a gradient, so no fix will be perfecto.

/edit - now that I look at it again, the line doesn't reach up to the text, and the titlebar isn't that gradated at that point, but as you say, half the freakin' bar would be gone, so why bother?

I still think that the part on the bar should be a different colour - not to mask it, but just a colour that doesn't clash so much with the blue.

dam 6th August 2002 18:33

Simon this one took you ages to finish.Looks kool. Can this skin really fool a boss? I wonder.

yeah, you're right :), the gradient blue would make it impossible to completely disguise the line.

anywayz, i think simon has finished this skin. look where the wsz is hosted. you don't submit a skin there until it's done and dusted ;)

Atmo 7th August 2002 03:24

Heh...Good stuff.

My only complaint is that its a bit hard to read the playlist, but for its intended purpose it's just about perfect.

simon snowflake 7th August 2002 06:00

Dam, it's not that it really took long. I just did not work on it after i finished the main. Yesterday, when I started working again after the holliday's I made the EQ, PL, MB, AVS and the MIKRO.

The 15+ in the text file are a bit more then I actually spend on it, but the main window was the most time consuming.

simon snowflake 7th August 2002 20:42

on 1001 they don't seem to like the idea behind the skin :D

1001 automatically edits swear words. By the way, I really can't agree that being a non-skinner skin automatically makes a skin awesome :D

simon snowflake 10th August 2002 18:35

i dont agree either.

but ther are only few over there who call it original. there is even one who dares to say its done a dozen of times.
