No kiddin, a month or so ago I had to work on a web server, in a dark room, running 1024 x 768 at 60Hz. I came out with one heckova headache.

laz 10th August 2002 23:59

im runnin 1280x1024@60Hz. crap ass 17' mon. No wonder why i get headachs sometimes, but mybe after using a 15" lcd laptop screen at 1024x768 for 2 years in the dark, that helped.
I want to be running it at least 85Hz but well that just cant be done on this crap monitor.

MY EYES HURT!

Perhaps if I had a real monitor instead of this dumb came-with-my-Dad's-computer-from-5-years-ago monitor...

Sandman2012 11th August 2002 04:56

flattmatt, go to the Adapter tab: there should be a drop-down menu for refresh rate.

rm' 11th August 2002 05:01

Alternatively, you can use a benchmarking utility such as SANDRA to detect it. Or, you can just set the refresh rate manually with jres.

mark 11th August 2002 10:22

at 640x480 i can get 120hz!

J_Bloggs 11th August 2002 10:30

800*600 on a 17" monitor, at what I'm guessing is 85Hz (I leave the setting as optimal because I don't know what my moniter can take).

I can get 1280*1024 out of it, but then I can't see anything.

If really wide threads become common place, I'm leaving.

1024 x 768, 85Hz, 19 inch monitor..

Reading other people's posts, it seems I am about the only one to need it this big? Even on a 19", 1280 x 1024 is pretty small, and not really all that clear (although I think WinXP's clear type might help, but I only have Win98 SE).

I can barely stand 75Hz on a white background, 60Hz is terrible. All my resolutions are set to 85Hz, anything lower is definitely noticeable at least for me...

eleet-2k2 11th August 2002 22:01

I was actually used to a 60Hz refresh rate for my 17 inch monitor for the longest time until I finally got pissed off at the headache's I'd get due to the low refresh rate and set it to 75HZ.

I agree with you Illusion, 1024x768 @ 16bit color 75Hz 17" monitor is big enough. I'm happy with it.

mc^^^^ 11th August 2002 23:58

hehehe, 1600x1200 @ 75Hz on a 17" flat screen, i 0wNz J00 :D (exept for neko:()

I wouldn't say cheapo, lots of people prefer 800*600, but I would say that you shouldn't use fortune city for a host, they change all images to their logo.

Mr. 75MHz 12th August 2002 14:02

1024 X 768 @ 60 Hertz (I'm using a 14in mointor i bought for £35)

whiteflip 12th August 2002 21:26

1024x768 on a 14 inch CRT @ 60Hz! YOUR EYES! YOUR BRAIN! It must ache all the time...

flatmatt 13th August 2002 03:28

Aha, that's why I didn't see it. I was looking for "xx Hz." And it said "optimal." Wow, that was fun...

jyvasaa 13th August 2002 03:36

1152x864, would have been smaller if my desktop wasn't so littered ;)

(edit) 75 hz, my right eye seems fine but my left eye is really sh|tty.

Lapikas 13th August 2002 08:54

1280x1024 17" monitor. 65hz. Maybe I should change to 1280x960 to get higher refresh rate and to save myself from head aches..

james 13th August 2002 09:32

...and get a display that's not squashed :p ;)

800x600, 75Hz, 14" fishbowl monitor :D
