looks cool
I was thinking of doing a lavalamp skin a while ago
good job

dekt 12th August 2002 20:37

Welcome to the WA2 skins forum. :)

You'll already know me as Vectorist from yaxay. So you already know I very much like your skin. But for the benefit of everyone else I think it's the best I've seen for a while - check out those EQ bars. Instant favourite, definitely. :)

Steel Rat have you submitted it to winamp.com or 1001?

Namelessv1 12th August 2002 21:12

Awesome job. I think most people stack the main above the eq, so that continuing bubble on the right side will be split, though.

Atmo 12th August 2002 22:05

Not bad at all. Lacking a little contrast, but its still quite readable.

Agreed. It takes up a bit too much screen real estate to have the main and eq side by side with the pl underneath, but im sure thats how some people use it.

welcome to skin love steel rat.
your playlist made me smile... "ahh mamma mia... ravioli (snore)" ;)

that's a neat skin with some very cool animations, and an original idea too. nice work!
if you wanted to customise it further, i think it could be improved by redesigning the baseskin elements like the clutterbar, playlist stack labels and songname text.

dimichan 13th August 2002 03:42

Nice job, and in a color not used much:up:
*eyes her purple lavalamp and smiles*

PeaceMaker 13th August 2002 03:45

aqua.. now thats a better colour selection. but purple would fit better aswell, instead of the green (which looks stale to me).

Steel Rat 13th August 2002 09:17

Thanks for the support, i might do those alterations, unfortunately i didnt save any of the .psd files so some bits will be a little difficault.

FooMonkey 13th August 2002 16:40

how 'bout red lava with a black base
it's not the most original color combination, but that's what my lava lamp is ;):)

Saotome 2.0 13th August 2002 16:46

I prefer blue liquid, green lava, and a silver base, but that's my lava lamp.
I think we should make a special requirement: All skinners must have lava lamps. That should cut down on skinner.exes.
I posted somewhere that spacefem could make a skin of some sort. Does anyone remember the thread where I said that?

Its on 1001winampskins.com now.
My lamps a blue/green one too (hence the colour of the ckin) but its the space rocket model, that would have been a bit difficault to do on Winamp2, and I'm scared ot the involvement of Winamp3 skinning.

I've made some changes, the track-time is in the NASAlisation font, and therefore easier to read. And I've made the playlist scrollbar look better.

Downloadable at:

or
1001winampskins, (its called lavalAMP)

Tip for changing colours in Photoshop:

(If need be) Select the area to change with the marquee tool
Do 'Image > Adjust > Hue/Saturation'
Slide the Hue slider along till you get the colour you want and note the setting (if you want you can fiddle with the Saturation and Lightness and try it with and without the Colourise box checked)
Then repeat using the same settings for all the other files you need to change

Maybe you already knew the above but I thought I'd say just in case it helps you do colour variations. :)

PS: My sister's lamp is orange/purple. I don't have one so looks like I'll have to give up skinning when the above ruling comes in! ;)

Steel Rat 13th August 2002 19:11

looks like im gunna make a range of different 'flavours'
feel free to edit the skin yourself, its pretty simple to change the colours, as dekt said.

I've done some mock-ups. I think the blue works best:

Just a quick +119 on the Hue and -16 on the Saturation and...

da-da

lavalAMP-Aqua
Looks way nicer than the original, the metal and blue work much better together.

Didn't know 1001 were accepting colour variations. I still like the original actually but I could see the blue one getting plenty of downloads.:)
