How exactly can the winamp mini-browser be of any use?
Ever since I've used winamp, I've always regarded the mini-browser as a useless feature. I mean, why should I use the winamp browser when I can just open up internet explorer, which is most likely faster and has more features to enhance my internet experience?
Well, since a new Winamp has been released, I thought I would re-evaluate the worth of many of its features that I have shunned in the past. How do you guys/gals use the mini-browser and why? :winamp: :weird: :winamp: |
Well, someone can make a script to connect to a lyrics site, such as [shameless plug]SongMeanings.net[/shameless plug] and retrive lyrics from it to view via the minibrowser. We, at SongMeanings, already working on a such script for our users. :)
Aside of that, now with Winamp3 you can simply not install it. During install, click the "+" where it says "Optional Components" and untick the "Minibrowser capability", no more minibrowser. |
I was planning uncheck the winamp browser during installation, but that's what spawned this thought. I thought maybe it can be helpful to me, I was just curious as to how other people used it.

I'm sure that like with any other part of Winamp3, the minibrowser will get more monkey love in the future. ;)

WinampDB used to use the minibrowser. Because the minibrowser can natively detect song titles, we just passed that info on to our servers through a web page URL (read the link for info on what I'm talking about). Now we have a component to do the same job, but better :)
There is, of course, also the default usage, which is to automagically forward you to artist info/bio on whoever you are currently listening to. |
I don't use it. I would use it if it displayed lyrics though. Being able to select Mozilla for the minibrowser would also be good.

Yea, I want mozilla back as well.

When you play music it updates with info about the song, and you can buy the album online, find bios, news, discography about the band etc. I assume it does the same for audio cd's as it does for mp3's using gracenote.

yea i dig the auto-song-look-up-thingie. I like to check out other stuff the artist has written that i might not have known they have written. I think its cool.
Although...... I don't leave it open all the time. Its not that cool :). |
