cannot play .avi with winamp

hello. I have an .avi file that a friend sent me. Winamp will not play this file, neither can WMP. However, VLC media can play it without trouble.

any ideas on what the problem is?

hello - I see that winamp pro has LAME alt preset standard/extreme. I have EAC with LAME & I normally use alt preset standard.

Would winamp pro produce the same ripping quality using alt preset...

you'll probably just have to edit your tags. I recommend using http://massid3lib.sourceforge.net - it'll allow you to do many tracks at once.

how to prevent playlists from being lost when playing "other" tracks?

I am trying to make a mix, so I have been drag & dropping .mp3 files into the playlist editor. But whenever I click on a track that isnt on the playlist, the playlist is lost and is replaced by this...
