I think removing the APE tag did the trick! I removed them from all my files and did a quick test with one of the subfolders with about 40K+ songs to see the memory usage. I was pleasantly surprised...

I tested a subfolder with 38K* files, mp3val fixed some files, never a bad thing! Didn't help my memory though. Not one bit in fact.

Tagging will be the next step....

I started to batch-tag my mp3 files to IDv1 and IDv2 only to get rid of Ape and will see if that helps. Is there an easier way to remove APE tags?

As said, just mp3 files. The drives I use now is a network drive, but I also tried it from my main drive (with OS on it) and on a secondary drive on the PC. So that doesn't seem to influence memory...

Well, you could try converting just one file to mp3, with dbpoweramp for instance, and see if it will play in WA. If it does, convert them all.
