I use SAM as well and the shoutcast host is...
I use SAM as well and the shoutcast host is linux. SAM is just the source not the server portion of shoutcast, like Winamp with the DSP plug-in.
You don't need a windows host to support shoutcast...

the transcoder (sc_trans) is what requires the mp3 license. SAM broadcaster has its only licensing and mp3 codec. It can use the winamp DSP which again is not the trasncoder as in sc_trans.

had 7 playlists setup with jingles and main based on the sample configuration. I went back to the original xml file and viola sc_rans now uses under 10% cpu...

100% CPU when sc_trans is used
I now get 100% cpu if sc_trans (beta 57, latest) is used
2% if just sc_serv is running
32bit Unbuntu 10.10
2GB ram, 3.2 P4ht
128kbps sc_trans, 44100, 2 channel mp3
same if I use sc_trans...
