I think I would watch Cesar Milan, buy Temple Grandon's "Animals make us human", read Evelyn Woodhouse's dog training books and be ready to give and get hugs. I don't agree with all of these training techniques, but it's close enough.

I think the most important thing about training a canine is that you can get them calm enough to actually communicate with the autistic beings that they are.

"OK. Settle down. Rub belly. Now. We're gonna talk for a little while about stuff".

Dogs always want to be good. If they know what you want, you're gold.
