apparently it wasn't a dream or cruel haunting memory. none of us could count ourselves any the better. i can only scarcely recall a flash of a moment of what must have been a considerable crash against this sliver of coarse sand. ill count myself fortunate that our sad flotsam of survivors found what little cushion we did, and that i somehow managed to land facing up. heaving myself from the boggy ground, i was destroyed to find my companions wrecked before me. some of them mostly buried, others drifting in the tide. the planet dropped suddenly and i became undone within for a moment as the thought that i was the last of us bolted through me. the sky had changed, we must have been scattered here for some time.
