Hey Mike… I forgot you Canadians are a lot more responsible then that country to the south of you. You right, for what you are after on wages like that you won't get ahead; you will just meet the minimum across the board.
Meeting the bare minimum is an okay thing to do as long as you only go up from there. Again, I know most Canadians don't like to take risks like that. Hell, it's one of the reasons why Canada is not as screwed as the US is right now.
It took me about six years of fairly heavy saving to be able to afford a starter home. I put the minimum down and only made the minimum payments. Then my house got devalued by about 60%… I threw my hands up in the air when it came time to relocate to Canada for a year. Stopped paying the loan, took a massive credit hit, did the whole short sale thing, took another massive credit hit. Yeah, I can see why you would want to try to avoid something like that.
Other than that I don't know what to tell you. Unfortunately, the economy sucks every where right now and jobs are hard to come by. No matter what the job, if someone has one they keep it because they know there is nothing else.
In times like these, many people head back to school to ride out the storm and get qualified to do other things…
ROH: I don't think the 1% have walked away from this either. Everyone has lost income/money. The 1% would simply "afford" to lose more without noticing as much. If the 1% still had all their money, they would still be doing their new business ventures and creating jobs for people like us...
