Official Bento skin color themes thread

    This thread has two purposes:

    1. You can download additional Color Themes for the Winamp Bento Skin (Modern Skin).
    2. You can post your own Color Themes.

Color Themes are a set of special text files that determine the look of Winamp skins. Each element is displayed in the appropriate color. This text files are written as XML documents. Installer available here contains a set of Color Themes.

There is also a special tool that allows users to create their own Color Themes. It is called Winamp Color Editor. Thanks to this it is very simple and easy to do.

    1. Downloading additional Color Themes

You can download special installer that allows you to install plenty of different Color Themes created by You and shared with us in this thread. It also allows to install Winamp Color Editor.

    Installer contains:
    • Color Themes for Winamp Bento / Big Bento Skins
    • Color Themes for Winamp Modern Skin
    • Winamp 5 Color Editor

You can download it directly using below link:
    Winamp Color Themes Installer

Installation process is very easy and intuitive. Installer contains also Color Themes for Modern Skin. It contains also Winamp Color Editor. You can find more informations here.

After having finished you should start Winamp with Bento (or Big Bento) as active skin. If Winamp is already running hit F5 if Bento is active otherwise select Bento as your active skin.
You can access the new Color Themes in the same list as the default ones are implemented.
Have fun with them and check this thread for new Themes from time to time.

    2. Posting own Color Themes

As it was mentioned earlier, in order to create Color Themes you should download Winamp Color Editor and start to edit / create themes with it (color themes installer now contains Color Editor (v2.2.1)).
Do not forget to click 'Save Themes' when you close Winamp or refresh the skin.
To submit your themes click the 'Export' button and post the new theme(s)code as quote/php in this thread.

    PHP Code:
    gammaset id="*Default">
        <
    gammagroup id="Titlebar" value="0,0,0" gray="0" boost="0" />

None of the darker themes really caught my eye or were too dark (text wise) so I threw this together. I started with a clone of Winamp Modern.

I'd rate this color theme as "Meh". Click for screenshot

          Brighter Pack attached

          Save .xml to:
          C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins\ColorThemes\Big Bento\
          C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins\ColorThemes\Bento\

(or whatever path you installed Winamp to, if not the default location)

Hit F5 to reload the skin

Matches 'Brighter' with the Default | * schemes

          Brighter | Green
          Brighter | Orange
          Brighter | Red
          Brighter | Sky
          Brighter | Yellow

You're restarting Winamp after adding the new themes, right? It seems Winamp doesn't "see" the new themes until you've reboot winamp. Maybe an idea for a future build, a "flush theme-cache" or something to that effect?

yeah i'm exiting winamp then starting again but i'm not getting any new themes.

maybe i'm putting the files in the wrong place? where are they supposed to be?

                    @katkef:

The location you mentioned is correct. Restart Winamp and it will detect the color themes.

Okay, this was a bit tricky, because it would seem as though "Window Text" controls both Window Text AND Column Header Text.

Unless I'm missing something, there really needs to be a separate 'Column Text' gamma group, so we can set it to a different color than Window Text. An 'Inactive Background' gamma group would also be nice :-)

Basically, I've tried to recreate the Winamp Modern Default theme more accurately than the one which is currently shipped.

I came into a problem which you'll see in the screenshots, where the text for "Search" and "xxxx items..." should be a shade of white/gray (like it is in Winamp Modern skin), but this then makes the Column Header text the same shade (which is obviously too light, heh, and needs to be a grey/black shade). I'd prefer this one, if only the ML Column Header text was a grey/black shade.
                            See Winamp_Modern_2.xml / modern_white.jpg

If I change "Window Text" to a grey/black shade, then this makes the Column Header text the right color, but then also makes "Search" and "xxxx items..." the same shade, and also automatically makes the inactive/highlighted item background a sickly shade of blue (and not true to Winamp Modern). So I can't win either way. Though I guess this one would have to end up being the choice out of the two, for now, heh.
                            See Winamp_Modern_3.xml / modern_black.jpg

Unzip the two xml files to you know where....
(if you don't know where, then see my first post above)

probably a bit late now but there are already thousands of colour themes for the modern skin, for consistency across the suite it would have been nice if the current stock of themes were able to be used in Bento, that way pretty much everyone can still use their favourite colour theme in the new skin, yes I know its a new skin but you will still get people wanting a similar colour theme to what they use in the modern skin, the only issue there is it will still look different due to the darkness of the skin compared to the modern, the other option would have been to control everything with an RGB picker
