Much better idea.

So, in my limited dj world, we commonly solve this issue by using some type of an audio interface box that is it's own soundcard that can handle multipule sources and runs via USB.

Latency and buffering issues between USB audio card and the computer are then handled by various flavors of audio software such as fruity loops, ableton, Traktor, Torq, etc.

Examples of such boxes are NI's Audio 6.

The only way I have ever seen this handled is to simply run it through one audio card. Though that Audio 6 is similar to the m-audio products I listed earlier.
