There should be no reason to remove MPC or VLC, as they are self contained.
No branches of MPC install any codecs into your system. They are only available as a separate download.
All of VLCs "shared library" codecs are "exclusively" installed in the VLC folder, and only the browser plugin will be used by external software.

VLC and MPC-HC are needed for streaming modern formats and protocols that Winamp has no ability to deal with, no matter what codec you use.
eg. Winamp cannot stream BBC iPlayer programs.

Mashups ? Smells like a lot of "Fishy Business" to me.
