I usually use the ND to control exposure- the one above obviously shooting right into the sun needed it to get anything like a half decent shot. I much prefer using the sunset filter that doing it in PP I find it gives a much better feel and usually just looks less processed and fake.

The break in the storm shot was taken without the ND on my old canon a70 P+S camera and the effect is done in PS. Now I actually have some PS skills I should probably go back and redo it so it looks less crap.

I've taken a lot of shots with the ND8 filter that I wouldn't have been able to take at all if I hadn't had it. I think I need to get an ND2 filter to compliment it as 3 stops is a lot and unless it's very sunny you don't need it.
