(Late, but, after the initial post...) Yes, that's a very typical system memory problem. Glad you got it resolved.

Whenever you'd like to try throwing hardware at a problem, simply buy the component(s) from a merchant with a return policy. I've fixed many an issue very quickly by buying several parts and returning what was not needed.
