To me, the best thing to do to maintain a good paint job is to find ways to keep it clean with as little friction as possible - e.g. pre-soak with dish-detergent-water and keep wet while washing so that light wiping removes everything easily. I just picked up a vehicle too, so I'm in that delicate state, trying to avoid that inevitable first scratch or blemish.

I'm still looking for an easy bumper bug removal though.

I still have an old Camry too - same design style as your '97, but I won't let that go until there's nothing left of it.
