I feel your pain.
My mp3 disk barfed on me last week. Been busy extracting and tagging. This time, I'm making cd backups. At least this forces me to get good tags, lyrics, and album cover art. I was dreading having to go through each file and validate the poor tagging I previously did. |

Computer power?
So, what kind of computer do you need to broadcast SHOUTcast streams?
Right now, I have them (128 & 24) running off of my personal system, which is a P4 1.5GHz with 512megs of RAM. If I were to get a computer dedicated to broacasting the streams, it doesn't have to be anything like that does it? Also, right now, I think I have a SoundBlaster Live Value card. If I were to get a dedicated computer, should I look into getting a 24-bit sound card? Do you think my current card could handle inputs from a mixing board? thanks, rg. |

that Sounblaster Live should work fine IMO. and on that note, your personal computer should do the job fine by itself.

you need at least a 266mhz P2 to encode 128k + a lower bitrate simultaniously. I've seen a 233 p2 do a single 128k. barely.
the only reason my 100mhz p1 works is because I pre-encoded the files and stream directly. encoding even at 24k on that machine pegs the cpu. -amps BB 192k Mp3 HIGH DEFINITION | BB 24k Mp3 | BB 20k WMA | BB Community __________________________ My Host - Fast-Serv.com | Free Shoutcast Hosting - Coming Soon... |

some codecs use more CPU power then others as well. I know LAME tends to use more.

That sucks. The same thing happened to me. My server dies, and I am back down to and average of 3 unique listeners a day....Sigh....
This is a sig of some nature. |

Sure, I have a new server, but it's only 56k and I have to get it's popularity back up....
BTW, what is that plug-in that makes 56k streams sound like 128k? I don't want Dee2 because it's too fustrating and resource consuming to run 2 winamps just so I can use 2 DSPs... This is a sig of some nature. |
