streaming bitrates
I have a cable connection. What bitrate should i stream at? Also, what should my max listener number be. One more question, can i go live with this ip address: 67.84.20.128 port: 1278?

Try 56kps, 44100Hz, Stereo. The number of listeners depends on how much bandwidth your server has. I recommned 32 for now but it may be too much for your server.
The port should be 8000 I think... |

You need to decide what quality you want and what your target listener base is going to be.
Modem uers? -> 24kbps 22kHz mono Broadband users? -> 56kbps 22kHz mono to 56kpbs 22kHz stereo and above. You'll need to use the calculators to determine your upload and maximum number of listeners for whatever bitrate you choose. Check out the Sticky post titled: SHOUTcast: Important Info & Answers to FAQs. READ ME! Scroll down a bit and look for the section titled: 1. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> DSLReports Bandwidth tester(Only be concerned with the UPLOAD bandwidth) 2. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> CasterClub's Listener Calculator 3. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> CasterClub's Bandwidth Calculator Use 1 to find your upload. Use 2 to determine the number of listeners you can support at your selected streaming bitrate. Additionally, your listeners download needs to exceed your streaming bitrate. Jay (KXRM) also has a Bandwidth Calculator. |
