Others can hear it ,but I Can't ! so what the #?*! is goin on ?
Need tips to get up and streaming. check in here with the experts !
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx So is there an expert available who can tell me whats goin on ! tried it yesterday with member ANGST and for him it plays ! Called a friend and he tried it and it plays ! With the winamp 3 version it says connecting in the window and just drops dead and shows mix.mp3 and thats it so i thought lets try winamp 2.8 but that gave the same shit result..it wont play. Only different part from that version is that it shows in the window "timed out" What timed out ? im the only one trying to connect ! And why does it says (when you go to the admin page:http://IP:8000) Server Status: Server is currently down ! How is that possible when its ON and a friend just listened to a mix ? Anybody got any bright idea's ? |

Please post a link to your DNAS.
Are you using the lan ip to connect/listen or the real, world-visible ip of the DNAS? |

A machine on the same lan as the DNAS needs to use the lan ip to connect/listen, not the real, world-visible ip.
Furthermore, your DNAS server status is down because there is no source connected. Dropping mp3s into your content directory doesn't source your DNAS automatically. You, someone, or a script needs to activate your on-demand. Want your DNAS sourced automatically 24/7 repeated with shuffle? Use a Winamp/DSP combo. |

Well can you explain what to do or change ! in a way i can understand(btw when a friend tries to listen it doesnt give a problem)
What i want is tp put about 10 links on my page and when people click on it then they can listen.not some kind of playlist, just on demand. So ? |

Continue doing what you did for this:
http://62.163.242.64:8000/content/mix.pls It works. However, the constant buffering impeded attempts to generate an accurate listening review. If you are going to do on-demand, then don't worry about your server status. Were you able to correctly connect/listen from a lan ip? Or do you need further assistance on this topic? |

Again, you need to use the lan ip of the DNAS machine.
Lan ips generally begin with 192.168.X.Y or 10.X.Y.Z On the DNAS machine, open a command window: Start -> Run -> type in "cmd" (no quotes) and press enter. In the window that appears, type in: "ipconfig" Look for the section that says "IP Address". For you, use the lan ip found above instead of 62.163.242.64 (Note, the above is not a comprehensive ip locator algorithm. Different operating systems have different methods.) How to find your ip address (Part I). Real, world-visible ip. How to find your ip address (Part II). Lan ip. |

i think your not getting the point,
computer A has the server installed. computer B is my working computer . im working on a lan. My internet connection goes directly to my router and devides into 2 connections. It gives comp A a IP of 192.168.07(for example) It gives comp B a IP of 192.168.08(for example) And the router itself has IP 192.168.06(for example) Thats how its connected here. When i go to my browser and type http://62.163.242.64:8000/content/mix.pls winamp refuses to play ! But ive tried this...http://192.168.08:8000/content/mix.pls And then it does play, but its not for real cause thats the internal connection. So for some reason it wont play when i connect on the internet. So let it be clear that both my computers dont have a full IP address ! And i cant change it otherwise my connection will be history. So whats the problem that winamp doesnt play the file and shows TIMED OUT ? |

Machines on the same lan as the DNAS (you) need to use the lan ip of the DNAS to connect/listen. Machines not on the same lan as the DNAS (the rest of the world) need to use the real, world-visible ip of the DNAS to connect/listen. Assume your DNAS has lan ip 192.168.X.Y Assume your real, world-visible ip is 62.163.242.64 Your lan machines use 192.168.X.Y Everybody else uses 62.163.242.64 Let me say it again... Your lan machines use 192.168.X.Y Everybody else uses 62.163.242.64 I'm not on your lan. I use 62.163.242.64 Is your friend on your lan? If yes, then they use 192.168.X.Y else they use 62.163.242.64 Are you on your lan? If yes, then you use 192.168.X.Y else you use 62.163.242.64 Is person XYZ on your lan? If yes, then they use 192.168.X.Y else they use 62.163.242.64 Sorry to be arrogant/condescending, but this is the last time in this thread I'm explaining when/where to use lan ips and when/where to not use lan ips. |

Q: So is it possible to explain why i never can listen to it using the full IP ?
A: Yes. S (Statement): Please dont forget im not an american so dont get to technical. R (Retort): Sorry, but we have to expect some degree of technical knowledge to solve technical issues. This is a problem we see all the time. Unfortunatley, the documentation that comes with peoples routers/lan hardware either is poorly written or goes unread. BTW: I edited my post above after you replied. Nothing major added, but needed to clarify (I hope) a couple sections. The questions now are... Are you able to distinguish between when/where to use a lan ip? Are you able to tell folks how to connect to your DNAS? Are you able to connect to your DNAS? |

HUH ?
yes i can connect to my dnas but only using local IP. If thats what you mean. and others can listen to my music. Thing that has to be solved is also the buffering. is there a way to explain how to solve that. Cause now it sounds like s..t,files that are playing are about 160 /320 kb(sort of high quality) How do i change the buffering ? |

To fix the buffering, you need to lower your streaming bitrate to something your upload can handle. Follow the two step process below. Here is my bandwidth bot: Check out the Sticky post titled: SHOUTcast: Important Info & Answers to FAQs. READ ME! Scroll down a bit and look for the section titled: 1. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> DSLReports Bandwidth tester(Only be concerned with the UPLOAD bandwidth) 2. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> CasterClub's Listener Calculator 3. DNAS Stuff -> Bandwidth -> CasterClub's Bandwidth Calculator Use 1 to find your upload. Use 2 to determine the number of listeners you can support at your selected streaming bitrate. Additionally, your listeners download needs to exceed your streaming bitrate. Jay (KXRM) also has a Bandwidth Calculator. |

Well i dont have a clue what it all means what your writing here.
But i think if everybody is directed to so called FAQ's you can just as well close this forums cause it will be useless writing anything here festerhead. All i know is that my upstream speed is fixed at 15 kbps,so that would be 2 users at once.( i guess) But how to change the buffering would be nice if that would be explained. |
