New Server error
Hi,
I'm trying to run a server from my own machine, and broadcast from the same PC. I have winamp streaming to the server, everything is setup, but I get this error in the server log window: ------------------------- <03/10/03@10:37:20> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak) <03/10/03@10:37:20> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: xxx.xx.xxx.xx:8000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out)) ------------------------- I have no firewall running, but I do have a router with NAT, and I cannot disable the NAT. What do I have to do on the router to get this to work, or does it not work with a router? Thank you for any help |

Ok, I forwarded ports 8000-8001 on my router, and I no longer get the error. Does it need TCP and UDP? Or just one?
But when I search for my station at Shoutcast I can't find it, any help on that? Also since I have a dynamic IP, is there anyway for me to make a PLS file? Since I don't quite know how I'm going to have a link to my station up without always changing it to match my new IP... Thanks |

Q: Does it need TCP and UDP?
A: TCP Q: But when I search for my station at Shoutcast I can't find it, any help on that? A: Do you see DNAS log messages such as "yp added me" yp touched"? "yp added me" means your station information (station name, bitrate, maximum number listeners, current number listeners, currently playing song, ...) has been added to the SHOUTcast yp (yellow pages) directory. "yp touched" means your station information (station name, bitrate, maximum number listeners, current number listeners, currently playing song, ...) has been updated in the SHOUTcast yp directory. It can take up to 15 minutes after the first "yp touched" message before your station appears from a SHOUTcast yp search. Q: Also since I have a dynamic IP, is there anyway for me to make a PLS file? A: You can get a static name, such as foo.bar.com (not as cool as that, though ) from http://www.no-ip.com or one of the other myriad of Dynamic DNS Services. Then, your links would be: DNAS link: http://foo.bar.com:yourDNASport Listen link: http://foo.bar.com:yourDNASport/listen.pls |

Hi,
I signed up at the no-ip site, thanks But these are the only messages I see (nothing about yp etc.): ------------- <03/10/03@11:16:14> [source] connected from 127.0.0.1 <03/10/03@11:16:14> [source] icy-name ash Radio - Jrock, Jpop and Anime music! ; icy-genre:Jrock, Jpop, Anime<03/10/03@11:16:14> [source] icy-pub:1 ; icy-br:24 ; icy-url:http://www <03/10/03@11:16:14> [source] icy-irc:N/A ; icy-icq:0 ; icy-aim:N/A ------------- Did I do something wrong? |

What do I have to do to get added to the yellow pages? I filled in all the fields in winamp, but I don't get any yp messages after I start the stream.
Thanks |

It appears you're not connecting the Winamp/DSP combo source to the DNAS.
Did you change the SrcIP and DestIP DNAS settings from ANY? |

One question about the kbs settings, if the MP3 files i'm playing are already encoded in the size I want to stream in, it doesn't re-encode them does it? Like if I was using MP3 files already in 24bps, and winamp was set to 24bps broadcast, it won't re-encode them will it?

I believe it does.
Do you have 24kbps mp3s or are you looking to boost performance? |

Is there anyway to disable that then?
Well I pre-record my shows, into like a non-stop mix. And I was going to encode everything in the bitrate I broadcast in, so everything would be 24bps already, won't it sound really bad if it's re-encoding it again? Everything I play is taken from CD's I own, so I'd encode it to whatever I needed to broadcast in. What directory is the "summary" html page in, when you just go to http://dashradio.no-ip.com:8000 for example? Cause I want to edit that page, or I want to use the code for current song/all songs played etc. in my own HTML page, is this possible? Also one quick question, could you test my stream real quick? http://dashradio.no-ip.com:8000/listen.pls I have no clue if it's actually playing, I know it's streaming right now though. I just had a friend try it, and he said he got an error, this is what I saw when he tried to connect: ---------------------- <03/10/03@13:52:47> [dest: xx.xxx.xx.xxx] starting stream (UID: 5)[L: 1]{A: NSPlayer/8.0.0.4487}(P: 0) <03/10/03@13:52:47> [dest: xx.xxx.xx.xxx] connection closed (1 seconds) (UID: 5)[L: 0]{Bytes: 16384}(P: 0) ---------------------- Is that my fault or his? Thanks Last edited by DEADENDKIDS; 10th March 2003 at 18:08. |

Q: Is there anyway to disable that then?
A: No Q: And I was going to encode everything in the bitrate I broadcast in, so everything would be 24bps already, won't it sound really bad if it's re-encoding it again? A: No. If the bitrate matches, I assume it still goes through the encoding process, but since the source matches the deliverable, then no actual encoding is done. I should have said this in my first response. Q: What directory is the "summary" html page in, when you just go to http://dashradio.no-ip.com:8000 for example? A: It is part of the sc_serv executable and cannot be modified without the use of a hex editor. The recommended method of displaying your DNAS information is to use the XML. Check out the Sticky post titled... SHOUTcast: Important Info & Answers to FAQs. READ ME! Scroll down a bit and look for the section titled... General SHOUTcast Information -> SHOUTcast ToolBox (All sorts of nifty add-ons for SHOUTcast) Q: Also one quick question, could you test my stream real quick? A: Q: Is that my fault or his? A: It is best to blame others Just kidding. I had no problems connecting using http://dashradio.no-ip.com:8000/listen.pls You might have to trouble shoot how your friend is conencting.

The song I just threw up was already a 128bps mp3, is this why?
Will using straight wav files from CD, or encoding the wav file to 24bps solve this? I notice the lower you go in quality for the stream, the more clipping you get. So if I encoded all my files into 24bps and then ran the mp3gain, it should solve this? I'm guessing you can't or don't need to use mp3 gain when using wav files as your source to stream? Thanks again |

I extract at 256kbps stereo and process everything though mp3gain.
These then source the following without clipping: 1. Windows mms server @ 128kbps stereo 2. Live365 at 32kbps mono 3. SHOUTcast at 56kbps mono If the wav's have artifacts, then yes, you'll still have clipping. For your particualr tastes, it might take some experimentation to find the right combination. |

Ok I understand now. Do you use the default of 89db in mp3gain?
If you don't get clipping the way you do it at 32kbs on Live, then I should be fine doing it the way you do. Thanks |

Yes, I use the default 89.0 dB
After processing the files, sort the clipping column and re-process at a lower dB to eliminate all clippings. You might have some tunes at a lower level, but that is better, IMHO, then clipping. |
