Why isn't this working ? Need some help...
Hi,
It's about 3 hours now that I'm trying to get this thing to work, but no luck so far. I read just about all the faqs, the guides, the readme that came with Shoutcast but it just doesns't help (or I'm stupid). I searched in the existing topics on this forum but the only thing I see here is how to get this thing working in Windows. I'm no Windows user. I use linux. So I have the console version and the config file. For me the config file is ok, I left the default settings as they were. I start the server at the console and I get just one line : <date@time> [sleeping] 0 listeners (0 unique) And when I try to connect using the example link in the readme "http://ip_of_server:8000/content/scpromo.pls" it doesn't do anything. I just get a white page in the webbrowser saying Invalid resource. Clicking on the Listen link in the admin console does the same. Winamp opens and says it can't connect. Also, in the Web interface, it always mentions : "Server is currently down" ??? Tomorrow, I'll try the DSP in FreeAmp or XMMS but I want this stream-on-demand to get fixed first. This is the log output after some attempts : <06/04/03@00:37:47> [SHOUTcast] DNAS/Linux v1.9.2 (Nov 25 2002) starting up... <06/04/03@00:37:47> [main] pid: 4151 <06/04/03@00:37:47> [main] loaded config from sc_serv.conf <06/04/03@00:37:47> [main] initializing (usermax:5 portbase:8000)... <06/04/03@00:37:47> [main] No ban file found (sc_serv.ban) <06/04/03@00:37:47> [main] No rip file found (sc_serv.rip) <06/04/03@00:37:47> [main] opening source socket <06/04/03@00:37:47> [main] source thread starting <06/04/03@00:37:47> [source] listening for connection on port 8001 <06/04/03@00:37:47> [main] opening client socket <06/04/03@00:37:47> [main] Client Stream thread [0] starting <06/04/03@00:37:47> [main] client main thread starting <06/04/03@00:38:01> [dest: 192.168.1.2] server unavailable, disconnecting <06/04/03@00:38:23> [dest: 192.168.1.2] server unavailable, disconnecting <06/04/03@00:38:24> [dest: 192.168.1.2] server unavailable, disconnecting <06/04/03@00:38:45> [dest: 192.168.1.2] server unavailable, disconnecting Now, what am I doing wrong here ??? |

As a follow-up, "<06/04/03@00:38:45> [dest: 192.168.1.2] server unavailable, disconnecting" means someone (possibly you) tried to connect to the DNAS and the DNAS didn't have a source to hand off.
Fix: Source the DNAS using either on-demand or live content. For on-demand content, Check out the Sticky post titled: SHOUTcast: Important Info & Answers to FAQs. READ ME! Scroll down a bit and look for the section titled: How to Setup On-Demand with SHOUTcast -> Sawg's Lame Rip-Off: On Demand Audio How to Setup On-Demand with SHOUTcast -> On Demand Audio (Radio Toolbox) For live content, check out the SHOUTcast DSP Plug-In for Mac OS X, Linux and FreeBSD |

Thanks for the info.
The streaming audio still has to be tested later on, but the on demand is working now. Oh, I'm so stupid . The faq said that the ContentDir as stated in the example as ContentDir=./content does not work like this when activated. I did so.The only thing I had to do was changing ContentDir=./content into ContentDir=./content/ and I changed the Sourceadress into 127.0.0.1 instead of ANY. It works !!!
