sc_serv under linux: why does it constanly acess the hdd?

Hi, I setup sc_serv and it works great. I realized that an "OnDemand" server is what I really want after playing with sc_trans. So, i killed sc_trans and created play lists for my ./content/ . I notice after 8 hours of not using sc_serv, it is still sitting there accessing the hdd every single second. I guess it is still trying to generate a stream that could come from sc_trans. What can I do to stop this? Thanks for any help.

no, shoutcast cannot source itself. You will need to use sc_trans or libshout or some other application to source it. The content directory is their to allow you to make static files available to the web such as yourshoutcast.com:8000/content/mp3.mp3

Actually, sc_serv can "source itself" via on demand streaming. I found out the problem. I was using "nohup ./sc_serv" but the conf had RealTime=1 and it was pumping output from the console to file. I just set it to 0 and works great. Thanks.

I can't currently stream do my schools firewall. I am in the process of getting my box ok'd for ports to be opened, then i could show what I mean by "source itself". What's I am saying is that rather than send the entire file to the user like a webserver, sc_serv streams the local file to the user. I took you comment to mean that sc_serv could not stream on it's own. I am working on a script to generate playlists of all the content in ./content/ . This type of streaming allows a user to pick and choose the material and puts almost no load on the system as opposed to the standard resampling methods. Basically I am creating a server jukebox that streams any song on demand and this is way cool. The only negative is that it doesn't appear that you can scan to the middle of a song, only back the begining. Big deal.

meh that's cool however shoutcast is just not that impressive, I'd use a webserver they essentially do the same thing. Check out www.radiotoolbox.com/mp3toolbox/ basically a shoutcast stream without shoutcast, uses apache or whatever webserver you like with PHP. And with that you can scan through an mp3 file.
