ALMOST up and running...

Okay, got the server and dsp installed and running.
I can connect now, but occasionally in the log I get this:

<06/13/03@13:47:03> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak)
<06/13/03@13:47:03> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: 217.40.231.14:8000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out))

What does it all mean?
Also, is there any way I'll know I'm broadcasting through the Shoutcast site successfully from my server or dsp interface?
TA!

I've got Norton Internet Security which I reckon may be running a firewall. What do I do to remedy that?
Yes I'm on XP

ok you need to disable your windows xp firewall because nortan internet securit will take care of that

to disable your windows xp firewall do a search for windows xp firewall

also you then need to open up ports 8000 on your nortan internet security firewall, read the instructions that came with nortan if u wanna no how to do that

after that it will probably work

I've disabled my firewall, and I'm guessing that port 8000 is open, (Though Idon't have a clue how to open it if it's not).
If I now run winamp, and connect my server, is that then it?
Do I check my transmission on another pc with that http://IP:PORT/listen.pls thing?

Nullsoft doesn't have control over your network.

festerhead what are you talking about haha. Nullsofts parent company is AOL, which AOL has full control over how the internet operates, They are similar to the matrix which has control over all living things. See where I'm going with this?

so in a way Nullsoft does have full control over your network.

(twisted I kno)

Yes, personally I don't have norton, but I should know that it is fairly easy to open ports, try www.norton.com for ways how. And also try www.windows.com to find out how to open XP ports on the XP firewall

Q: See where I'm going with this?
A: No.

S: AOL has full control over how the internet operates
R: False.

S: so in a way Nullsoft does have full control over your network.
R: False.

Let me elaborate on my reply "Nullsoft doesn't have control over your network" to "this isn't as easy as nullsoft make out is it?" by pointing to the DNASs readme:
code:
* If you want people on the internet to be able to hear you, you also need
a clear connection to the internet. No firewalls, NAT devices, web
caches at the ISP, proxy servers, or internet sharing devices. In some
cases you can make a workaround but if you intend to provide a quality
streaming service you have to invest in a quality connection. Naturally,
if you just want to run a private server locally on a LAN, you don't need
this at all.

what festerhead means is that nullsoft cant setup ur network for you

you cant say (i guess its not as easy as nullsoft makes out) which the problem isn't a problem with the nullsoft software, but actually is a result of the fact that the user doesn't have enough network knowledge to setup his/her network for the dnas server.

I don't recall road runner shipping with a firewall. But anyways here I go (actually I have road runner as well)

are you using a router?
Using Zone Alarm or Norton Firewall?
