Forum Idea: Quick Link Button
Ok, so Fickle and I were talking the other day via IM, and he kept refering me to posts in therads, but the only links we coudl get were the ones to his last post, or just to the thread, since we didn't have the post ID number. My idea would be place a button/link either next to the post time or next to the "edit" button, and what it would do is have a pop-up box with _that post's_ url. For example, this post would have <http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....98#post1025698> r it's url. idk, but I think it would be neat if possible. It would make talling peopel about certain posts easier.

Even though that didn't pass my "Was that English?" test, I know what you mean. I've wanted the same thing myself. Having a link/button might cause confusion, like "What's this for? I'm already here," etc.

I like it... I've always wondered how people find an exact post when they put a link in another thread. I still haven't figured that one out. Perhaps instead of a big link button like those at the bottom of the post, it could be an itty-bitty icon, the size of a smiley, or just a link right next to "report this post" and "ip: logged".

ps. If you hover over the "Report this post" links, it'll show you the post ID. You can then paste that into the URL you've grabbed from the "Last Post" link.. voila. =)
It's a workaround, I know, but it's worked for me for the past couple of years. =D "My heart hates uggos." –J.D. |

That could avoid, in sometimes, the search engine * PC: Intel Core 2 DUO E6550 @ 2.33 GHz with 2 GB RAM: Archlinux-i686 with MATE. * Laptop: Intel Core 2 DUO T6600 @ 2.20 GHz with 4 GB RAM: Archlinux-x86-64 with MATE. |

I got the idea from the "quick quote" feature they have at hardwaregeeks
http://www.hardwaregeeks.com/board/s...&postid=145417 just click the "quick quote" box and the lil box comes up with the post in code so that you can quote easily using quick reply. I want it to say post ID/URL instead of quote th.

I.... I.... THAT CAN HAPPEN? Since when did time become compressed? Yes, yes, that's the only explanation. There was this wrinkle, see, and I've actually gone FORWARD IN TIME to the point where something was done. All of us must have gotten sucked into a WORMHOLE, that's it. And so now it's 2 years down the road....Brain... overloading.... ![]() <3 Sawg! I do prefer a link over a button though, there are just too many buttons on the page as it is. Not sure about anyone else's preference. |

here is another idea that the dialup users might like. why not get rid of the "profile" button and have it so that you can just click the persons name or avatar to see their profile? I think name would work best jsut cause not everyone has an avatar though. Just a thought. I know it is a small image, but still, coudl help a lil.

I dunno if it's my computer or the server (probably my comp), but for some reason *every* image seems to be loading from scratch. I've got the cache settings set up right (IE 6)... also, in the same sense, some images don't load at all - randomly, but most commonly the blank image at the very top of the screen... [X]... I just right click and say Show Image. Anyone else have this problem... just curious...?
And, oh yeah, the Quick Link button works great! Thanks Sawg, maybe you can help me with some PHP when I get my own BB running? Do you know a good one that can handle maybe 5 users on it at a time on a 233MHz P1 server? ![]() Thanks! |

Ok, since the forums are able to change certain words to *'s, would it be possible to have a sort of auto spelling thing? I am thinking _u_ (_ = space) could be automatically turned to "you" "teh" to "the" and other common things like that could automatically be fixed to saev everyoen the headache of people using 'chatroom speak'.

yea, I know a word filter would do the trick, same thing as in a bad word block, where you input before and after words, think that would work great
is pretty simple too!
