Rock Music Recommendations? Help!
Heya audiophiles out there. I need someone that knows their stuff!
Background: I've been listening to the following bands for the last two or three months now. Hardcore listener, I listen to music close to 24/7. Yes, it plays when I sleep, eat, ... and all the rest. (*coughs*) Anyway. I'm wondering if there's anyone out there that can recommend and bands that fit well to the ones I've listed below, i.e. ones I'd like but not yet know. Thanks for your help people! Here's the list. Ones I *really* like are in red 12 Stones, 3 Doors Down, A Perfect Circle, Audioslave Badly Drawn Boy, Bush Cake, Cold, Coldplay, Creed, Deftones, Faith No More, Godsmack, Goo Goo Dolls, Lifehouse, Nickelback, Pearl Jam, Placebo, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Seether, Soundgarden, Stabbing Westward, Stereophonics, Turin Brakes, U2 Call me a freak for my taste in music if you want :P (In fact, before all this softie stuff - mind, still now, too - I did a lot of heavy metal, so there :P) Again, thanks. Look forward to the replies! |

Thanks for those. Especially Foo Fighters, they rock. Used to have an album of theirs somewhere, too. *goes and look*. Wonder why I didn't think of them before.
![]() Heavy-Metal wise, going slightly off-topic, I do Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Children of Bodom, Cradle of Filth, Falconer, early Black Sabbath, Subway to Sally, Sentenced... (man, the list goes on. Before I bore anyone to tears I'll shut up :P) Sildantar. |

Also Rage Against The Machine, Metallica, System Of A Down are good aswell. There sort of a mix between metal and rock.
Metalwise. Well i listen to SlipKnoT(most people pay me out coz of that), Black Sabbath, Deftones, Murderdolls....Rammstein, Mudvayne. I can't think of any more at the moment. Heard about the Murderdolls... What're they like?
I personally can't stand Rage or System (the vocals aren't my thing), and SlitKnot... No offense, but not by cup of tea either. Sabbath, Rammstein and (recently) Deftones kick butt, you are so very right there Metallica is, of course, a timeless band (though if their new album is as good as it's coughed up to be is open to debate :P)Take care, Sildantar. |

I doubt you would like the Murderdolls. Joey Jordison (The main drummer in SlipKnoT) founded the band. Its sort of a mix between Rob Zombie Alice Cooper and SlipKnoT. Its hevay in a way and the singer sounds like popeye the sailor man (well so my little brother says).
I would also recommend Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Pink Floyd, thats only if you in to the older bands like i am. Ahhh, yes, Murderdolls <-> SlipKnoT connection rings a bell now. I HAVE heard them before. You're right - not my cup of tea
![]() Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, (Do you like the Dire Straits at all? A bit softer classic-rock, but also that era), Steppenwolf, all good stuff, all good stuff. Pink Floyd's too psychedelic/spacy for my liking (except, of course 'Another Brick In The Wall'! Love singing that out loud in class. We don't need no education. *smiles*). Oh, a fairly unknown band you might want to check out what I've been digging lately, is called "Spiritual Beggars". Good heavy metal that reminds of a souped-up Black Sabbath/Uriah Heep with some power metal influences. You might like. While we're trading bandnames, ever heard of the Stone Temple Pilots? They've been doing some good stuff, too, lately. Nice 'grunge metal', if that's your thing. I like, every now and again. Sildantar. |

I have heard of Dire Straits, never listened to any of that music.
Ill check out those bands you recommended. I keep remembering rock bands. Jebediah The Living End You prabably don't know them but they are quite good. Never heard of 'em, no. But I'm taking notes here, I'm taking notes
![]() I just remembered another good one: Theory Of A Deadman. If you like Nickelback at all, give those folks a try. Nickelback's frontman worked with these folks to produce some of their music. Good stuff. Anyway, I'm gonna hit the sack, it's almost 4:00pm, I've been up all night and day. Thanks heaps for the recommends. Be seein' ya. Stay metal! *grins* Sildantar. |

Raz is right - get Appetite For Destruction. It has an attitude unlike any other rock record.
My own recommendations: Van Halen - Van Halen Led Zeppelin 2 and 4, How The West Was Won If you haven't got it, check out U2's Joshua Tree (what, by the way, is "Where the Streets have no Name" actually about?) Check out Urban Hymns by The Verve. It's a great album, often overshadowed by the first track. Oasis - Definitely Maybe. Captures the essence of living for the moment. True class. hard to know what else you'd like. You already mentioned some great bands I would otherwise have recommended - Stereophonics, Turin Brakes, RHCP (Blood Sugar Sex Magik is pure class)... |

Woah. Never thought I'd get any kind of big response here. Awesome.
@Raz: I've got some Guns & Roses lying about, too: G&R Lies, and Use Your Illusion 1 and 2. Hm. I'll look out for APD, too. Thanks. @ShyShy: I used to have all their albums (AIC), but lost 'em all, a little while ago :/ I remember some of their stuff was pretty good, but never did get into them too much. Look out for them, too. Thanks. @anubis2003: White Stripes are a bit odd for me. :P What're Drowing Pool like, I've heard the name before? Any bands you can liken them to that I've listed? @Dawg4Life2K1: Pantera and Staind, now there's two good bands. Can't agree with your KoRn recommend though, don't like them boys, myself :P What's Chevelle like? Never heard of 'em. @Merlin: Think I've got all Van Halen and Led Zeppelin. Used to do a whole lot of those, a little while back. Ah, memories... Your question about the U2 song, I dug about a bit and found this, you might want to check this linkout, it's got some interpretations of the song. Your preference as to which one's correct. Also, I've got that Verve album ('s the only one I got by them, too...), so I'll take a listen to that soon. Cheers, and thanks again all. Sildantar. |

Appetite is head and shoulders above any of their other albums. Every single song is top notch.

Check out some Evanescence and Lacuna Coil. Personally, I think the new Metallica CD sucks. It just sounds like they lost their edge, and don't have any depth in their music.

Drowning Pool has had several good songs - their main ones are Bodies and Tear Away. Bodies is really well known: Quote:
I would also recommend Chevelle - from your taste of music I think you'd like them. A good way to figure out some good songs is to go to www.shoutcast.com and search for some bands you really like and then listen to some of the stations that play them. That's also a good way to find out some good bands before they become well known(and therefore before their CD prices go up too ).

OMG ShyShy, I haven't listened to The Cult/Sonic Temple in eons. Edie is an epic. I wonder if I'll find the CD under the dust (luckilly they're in perfect alphabetical order).
I believe the Mission's bass player defected to the Cult in 95 - as a result the Cult sounded more like the Mission than the Mission?! For me, the kings of Rock N Roll are the Jesus & Mary Chain. Their followers Black Rebel Motorcycle Club rock as well (same formula). I'd love to wear just black, is there anything cooler?????

Check out 00's Rock, 90's Rock, and 80's Rock, plus Metal and Numetal. I'm sure you'll find plenty there that you'd like. Any band that I have more than, say, 4 songs for, is a band I'd probably recommend. |
