Home Recording Studio

Does anyone here have any opinions on setting up a home recording studio?

My main interest is in multi-track digital for my own use to record guitars, vocal, keyboard and drum machine.

I'm a bit familiar with analog multi-track recording from doing quite a bit of studio work back in the 70's, but I need some input on today's technology.

I'm interested in hearing about recording/mix-down/effects software (pro's and con's) and, especially if you do your own home recording, a brief description of your technique (looping, multi-tracking, etc.).

I'm sure there's more than one musician in these forums with a wealth of information on this subject.

Anything offered will be greatly appreciated.

Whoa! You see it too?!

I still use an Atari ST with Steinberg Pro 24. Keep it simple! The benefit of my system is I can play 'Revenge of the Mutant Camels', 'Quatris' or 'Space Blob' mid-session.

Good deal! I'll check into those, thanks!

How about recording technique?
With analog tape, you usually cue up the tape and lay down the rhythm tracks first (drums, bass) complete start-to-end.
Then rewind the tape to record the guitars, then keyboards, etc and then vocals.
But I've heard that in digital, you just need like only a bar of a certain section for each instrument and then just loop it or drag-and-drop it in where it's supposed to be. Is this the preferred technique or is the "laying down of tracks" technique still used?
