Good albums people never heard of

Nominate some albums most people dont know are good..
Dont state obvious choices like the Chronic by Dr Dre or Doggystyle by Snoop. Give me obscure albums.

First 3 I can think of are

Kausion- South Central Los Skanless

AllFrumthaI-(self titled album)

Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz- Kings of crunk & Put yo hood up.
I thought their albums were all loud rapping but these 2 albums bump quite nicely in the car.

Nickelback - The Long Road (their new one)

The world is made of conflicts: good and evil, order and chaos, light and dark, hot and cold. All are essential to life. None can prevail for any length of time, or life will fail. In the end, the best any can hope for is balance.

CPX: www.cpxrock.com (THIS one is obscure as hell) You can't get any of their music right now cause their website is under construction and they're unknown outside Detroit. But its some great punk, seriously.

Hey, no shit? Thats sweet. They deserve a lot more popularity then they've gotten. What hurts them is they orginally were more of a christian band, although now they're holding out for a major record contract. I think I'm going to one of their shows this weekend. I'll get a CD and but up a torrent link to it. People deserve to hear this shit.

Cheers primal scream. I've just looked those up on AMG. Both have a ***** rating. I have The Colour of Spring which hinted at ambience - these must be the real deal.

Bit Torrent (download a client here: http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/download.html) is a P2P client that is quite different than others. Its primarily for huge files (50MB~1GB+) and requires you first to download what basically amounts to an instruction file for whatever you want to download. These files can be found at suprnova.org (or do a google search for suprnova, since its always down but there are mirrors everywhere). The selection isn't close to Kazaa but its nice to be able to start downloading a file with every Metallica song ever recorded, and come back the next day and its done. Make sure to read about the BT protocol to get a grasp on how best to use it.

@Cylob:
Yeah, I should get more into the Detroit techno/electronica scene. I love the music, I just haven't gotten into it on a local level yet.

A whole discography in 1 file? What a concept. I take it the songs are zipped.

So you live in Detroit Shane M. It has a great heritage for techno & house, but you must know far more than me (at my desk 10,000 miles away). Anyway - respect!

Know what, usually not. Sometimes they come as a .rar file. But for example, with the Metallica thing, I told it to put it into My Documents. When it finished, I checked it, and there were like 15 folders in there, one for each album. What happens is when you d/l the 'information header file' (.torrent) it allocates the space on your hardrive and sets up the folder/file structure before it ever downloads one byte of the actual file. So it looks right away like you just downloaded a gig of music even though its all just really 'claimed space' at the time.

Yeah, Detroit is great for techno to a point. We have the worlds largest electronic music festival (lovefest would more be strictly techno) but honestly, many clubs here don't play it like they do in the UK or eastern europe either. We get a lot of house and hiphop, whereas I LOVE trance. You can find it if you look though. In 5 years if its still like that I may try to open my own techno club. I think that would make a killing around here.

Sounds impressive. I usually acquire 3 or 4 albums at a time for any given artist, it's a case of doing it track by track. The system above is a dream. I've often thought of a web-ferret program that would track down all songs by an artist and dload them. Lazy me.

Yeah the track by track thing is a pain. Now its even worse because half the files don't have id3 tags, half of them are fuX0red by the RIAA and have those scratches halfway through, and I don't share on Kazaa anymore b/c of the lawsuits. BT torrent allows me to share as well as get better quality music. Its just often a little slower on average...but also easier.

Spearhead have a new album out I see (commended by AMG). I hadn't heard of them - some sort of political rap (as if rap can be anything else). Sounds interesting.

Yeah its pretty good stuff. I haven't listened to much on their newer albums, I kinda lost track of him after Home. But yeah, its somewhat politically motivated but more importantly its rap with a positive message. And not stupid shit like Wil Smith either. Many people who don't like rap like Spearhead. They rock.

Bluetip...That's the band, don't know any of their albums, though...

A very close Japanese friend I knew a while ago once said to me "Watashi no koto wo oboeta, onegai shimasu...Yakusoku?"

Clan of Xymox are a great band, but overshadowed by similar acts like New Order. They're still making great albums after 15 years. They have 10+ excellent albums to their name.

if you like electronic music like the made in the early eighties compare it with kraftwerk (that's a german band) this guy johan timman is from belgium and just made one album - if you have kazaa there's most likely someone who put it on the net

Cheers spaceplayradio. Another artist with a low profile is Legowelt. Very distinctive electro from Holland (The Hague I believe). I would recommend the tracks:

Legowelt - Sturmvogel
Hong Kong Counterfeit - Metal Disco (Legowelt Remix)

Both widely available from your green friend.

Mr.Bungle - Disco Volante (maybe not obscure in the sense of "rare" but certainly obscure musically... and Goddammit I Love That Album! )
Scum Element - In The Night (I don't think too many people outside Vancouver would know this band)
Agoraphobic Nosebleed - (don't know the name of any albums but they're damn good)
Liquid Tension Experiment - LTE, LTE 2
Yakuza - (also don't know the name of the album, if anybody knows it would help me out a lot, the one track that hooked me was 'Chicago Typewriter')

I see 'Trip into the Body' (1981) is quite rare. If I had it I'd definitely back it up.

Snowpony are little known. Made up of ex - Stereolab, My Bloody Valentine and Moonshake members. Their last album 'Sea Shanties for Space Ships' was very good actually. You could call it a fusion of those bands, you can hear all 3 influences in the same track.
