Buffering Probs..

I have a 128k stream at screaminghosts.com and a 1mb u/d pipe to the net which 99% of the time is unused, except for the stream to the server.

I have had a few emails from listeners along the lines of:

"I noticied for some strange reason, the songs skip a lot on the first like 5 seconds of a song."

I am baffled, is prob at my end?

Or there end? Buffer settings maybe? I have not got a clue

Many Thanks

do you know your upstream? Do you have enough upstream bandwidth to support the amount of listeners that you have?

I stream to a dedicated shoutcast server(screaminghost.com) they connect to that stream not mine. The server is on a huge net pipe so I dont think my 1mb upstream counts.

Is the stream re-buffering at the listeners end or is it just "skiping" i.e. the data stream from screaminghost is constant it's just the sound that jutters

Jutters

Thats it above - it jutters(skips) for up to five seconds of each new track

It sounds like a problem at your end, if you can try setting up on demand streaming and this also skips, speak to screaming hosts. If you cannot set up on demand streaming then get a freind to connect as the source and see if it skips when they are broadcasting. THis way you can tell whether or not you need to shout at your host or it is a problem with your config/software etc.

If the connection between the Winamp/DSP combo and DNAS is flakey, try running a local DNAS and have the main DNAS relay it.

Please post a link to your stream.
