Website: Hoax or Real?

Read this in Popular Science
Quote:
Earlier this year a debate broke out on the listserv of a National Association of Science Writers. Discussion centered around a certain website purpoting to be the work of creation scientists. The group argued whether the site is real or a hoax. Some believed that even the most reactionary groups couldn't be so ignorant; others couldn't imagine who would have the time to create such an elaborate satire.
Website: http://objective.jesussave.us

It is pretty funny.
This section is hilarious. All of them are so stupid its funny.

ROFL This is great! I think it's real. But in that sense that they try to prove the opposite: the way the Christian church tries to prove its theories is ridiculous.

By Hopsiah's History Lesson
Hopsiah the Kanga-Jew knows history because his family lived it!

Hopsiah lives in the Middle East, where his ancestors and those of all the other animals and humans alive today exited Noah's Ark 4,000 years ago.

But unlike the other Kangaroos who hopped to Australia, Hopsiah's family stayed behind to witness the coming of the Messiah!
Read more here.

LOL! You can read for hours here!

I think this site is real because some of it does make sense...like the article I've linked below. That article does make some good points, while others are a little...well, flaky.

http://objective.jesussave.us/slot.html

Just to let you know, not all Creationist scientists are lunatics. Many are very respected. Just keep in mind that Evolution is no more fact than is Creationism. That web page is probably being run by some misguided Creationist scientist.

If life calls and you're busy, let the answering machine pick-up.

Just so you know, my previous avatar was NOT a swastika, nor did it have much similarity to one. Just thought I'd clear that up since I cannot use my own original art work.

"CULT ALERT:
(March 28, 2003) Dr. Troy Franklin, OBJECTIVE occult expert, has brought to our attention a disturbing new danger to weak-spirited Christians and unsaved persons that we feel needs to be reported.

As he tells it, while out at a local supermarket shopping for food for his cat, Dr. Franklin noticed one of those small tents advertising "Free Rock Chip Repair" that have been springing up in our nation's parking lots. Curious, he went to enquire about getting a ding in his windshield sealed, only to learn that the person manning the tent had other intentions, namely to try and recruit Dr. Franklin into a cult!

Fortunately, the good doctor has become quite immune to cultic recruiting ploys from his years studying their tactics, and thus he was able to extricate himself from the situation with his soul unharmed. However, those less skilled in their Faith -- and especially those of false faiths or no faith at all -- would have soon found themselves back at the cult headquarters doing all manner of unspeakable rites and blasphemies... or maybe even brainwashed into manning a tent of their own.

For the safety of your soul, do not be tempted by the lure of impulse rock chip repair from strangers in parking lots. It may say free, but it could cost you your soul! If you need your windshield fixed, go to a qualified Christian repair shop."

Gawd... I think I may have to change my pants. I don't care if it's real or a hoax, it's made me laugh. Thanks, I needed that.

No shit? Ya think so? Cause that hadn't occurred to me. I mean, I suppose it could've happened, but it sounds pretty far fetched to me. Pushing the button more than once and all, and getting more than one post. And they are all the same time stamp. There's no way in hell he could've pushed that button three times in a row in the same minute. In fact I absolutely refuse to believe that such an explanation could exist - I contend rather that at least two (if not all three) of those post came into existence spontaneously and that DJHotIce had absolutely nothing to do with them.

I cannot adequately express my growing disgust with dipshit comments such as that quoted above regarding my posts. Fuckmooks.

A beetle would shoot boiling-hot toxic chemicals out of his butt against evil and you still think a Christian organization is behind it? I'm getting the feeling you're joking with us here! Sure they use semi-relious arguments, just to prove how silly it all is.

Have you had a look at their member page? I've tried to send some of them an e-mail to thank them for their great site , result:

Umm...no! You cannot see evolution happening in front of you. It happens so slow according to the theory that there is no way that a human can observe the difference. Adaptation and evolution are two entirely seperate processes. Evolution is no more scientific fact than creationism.

Now I'm not saying that that website is correct in all of its arguments...remember, I said it was a little flaky. But, that beetle is actually an interesting enigma for evolution...I'll post something when I find some non-flaky literature on it.

You're not getting my point. Yes, they refer to some semi-scientific phrases. No, a Christian organization would not use these kind of words. Especially not on their kids page. Believe can be good for certain people, but not when it blinds you and stops you from thinking yourself...

i think that says enough about that site. all the "scientific" evidence they use is horrible misuse of terms and theories, as far as i can tell. the game theory page for example starts off well (the matrix they have for "do unto others..." is actually quite clever) but rapidly devolves into nonsense.

No...incase you didn't pick up on it, my statement is what we call sarcasm...thats sarcasm: a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual. Did you see that word "ironic"? Thats the key to sarcasm.

And how did you like this:

Migration of Kangaroos & Other Marsupials:
"However, not all marsupials made it to Australia before it broke away from Pangaea around 2000 BC. The stragglers - mainly the slow, dim-witted opossum kind - can still be found in North and South America, baring witness to the great postdiluvian marsupial migration. (Those unfortunate to have been stuck on Antarctica when it broke off and moved to the extreme South most likely froze to death.)"

So 4000 years ago Pangaea still existed and all continents were still attached! I would love to see their geological theories!

According to Creationism, the Earth is no more 12, 13 thousand years old max. And that isn't luticrous. Let me go look up some info on radio halos...here we go: http://www.christiananswers.net/q-aig/aig-c009.html

That is the most stupid thing I have ever read. You accept the bits of science you like, yet reject parts you don't. It makes no sense whatsoever.

If your going to believe in the bible, can't you just accept that genesis is a metaphor, and shouldn't be taken literally.

The reason that women in Afhganistan used to wear burkas which cover their whole bodies is because they take this stuff too literally.

Stop being stuck in the past, and drink from the coffee pot of common sense.

Heheh, so Australia moved (and moves?) with a speed of at least 2 km per year???? Don't you think we would be able to notice that? In fact we do notice the 4 cm each year between America and Europe. Do you think GPS will help God out here?

And thats what we like to call being a closed minded individual who does not want to accept that they possibly could be wrong. Thank you for excluding yourself from the debate. It would be wise of you to be a little more open minded, it makes science quite a bit easier. And please, please remember that evolution is not scientific fact, and may I show for the record, you have not directly answered that statement because you know I'm right. I'm not telling you that creationism is the only way to go, I'm trying to let you know that Creationism has plenty of science going for it and it is in the realm of possibility just like evolution. Evolution is just as ludicrous as Creationism.

You know, for some reason, I'm getting the feeling you didn't read it. Could it possibly be bacause you haven't made any intelligent argument on the article...probably. And exactly how do you get away with refuting science you don't like but I can't? Would you answer that question, because I'd really like to know. And maybe you should enlighten yourself on archeological proof that many stories in the Bible (notice how I capitolize...and you should even if you don't believe in it because it is the title of a book) have actually occured. So to summarily refute the Bible as an actual record (like Voltaire) is not logical. Sure parts of it may not be accurate, but for the most part it is turning out to be surprisingly accurate.

Flood come...lot of water shoot out of ground at enormous pressure. Dramatic changes occur. Thats the jist of what happened according to creationism. According to the Bible, it did not rain before the flood. There was enough water in the ground in just the right ratios that it didn't need to. There was also more water in the atmosphere. When God brought the flood upon the Earth, water came up from the Earth with great pressure. Excuse me UpperKEES for being a little short, but thats will's fault with his oh so "enlightened" arguments.

And fickle, I can't belive it's actually happened...we've finally found something that we disagree on.

Just so you know, my previous avatar was NOT a swastika, nor did it have much similarity to one. Just thought I'd clear that up since I cannot use my own original art work.

So, if a creationist has a completely unrelated opinion (i.e. "slavery is bad", "the Maple Leafs will not win the Stanley Cup this year"), you won't respect that opinion? If you asked Atmo for help with a computer, and he gives you his opinion on what the problem could be, would you immediately disregard any thoughts he might have, regardless of how well his suggestions worked in the past, upon learning that he was a creationist?

I find it hard to like anyone who discriminates against someone else solely because of thier religious beliefs.

The world is made of conflicts: good and evil, order and chaos, light and dark, hot and cold. All are essential to life. None can prevail for any length of time, or life will fail. In the end, the best any can hope for is balance.

Well, here's the thing, IMO.

It's very hard to take a creationist, if you are not one, for one of two primary reasons:

1) They are too dumb/young to have considered the facts and formed an intelligent opinion,

or

2) They have actively done so (considered the information and formed an opinion), and having come down on the side of creationism are True Believers. As such, it becomes a matter of right or wrong, eternal rewards or fiery damnation, etc etc etc. Thus, they view it, consciously or unconsciously as part of their missionary duty to convert you to their belief and save your soul from that giant EZBake oven down below.

Either way it's abso-toodely-fucking-lootly impossible to argue with one, and once the debate's come up, it's often very hard to maintain a civil conversation on any subject.

Now don't jump on me - this is perhaps one of the few posts I've made in recent days (hours?) in these threads that has absolutely no inflammatory intent behind it. But seriously, if you're arguing for creationism, you might as well throw all the scientific jargon out the window. It's your belief system versus theirs, and you'd speak well for your intelligence and perception if you'd just own up to it and play on your own field.

...a blatant person.

Hey. Even the Mona Lisa's falling apart.

I'm not going to tell you you're an idiot for believing in the Bible, word for word, but the idea of God melting two cities for sodomy, when people do it fairly often now and have yet to be turned to salt? And you can't squeeze whale out of "giant fish" that swallowed Jonah?
And hey man, I still haven't built that model I bought two years ago, how can someone have the drive to create a planet in [ahem] seven days?
To me, the bible is mostly symbolism and ideas.
[rant]
I went to a catholic high school for two years, and I had a teacher there who will call Phil. Now, Phil was a Catholic Brother, meaning he wasn't a priest, but he was up there somewhere. He had a gigantic head and wore sandals year round. His feet were disgusting, I'll tell you.
Brother Phil taught religion, and badly. He'd make fun of people, and poke this and that, and made the students stand before the class to read the passages, etc etc. He was an asshole.
Brother Phil had a problem with what I called Literalists, people who take the bible literally. He'd say something like "Now, all these born-agains and what-have-you, will tell you this, but you've got to take the bible as a story made up by a bunch of guys who had barely invented the wheel yet."
This is where I disagreed with Brother Phil. I didn't believe in literal biblical translations, but I think that he went about his lesson the wrong way. Brother Phil was an asshole, pure and simple, and he had his religion blinders on.
He kept his blinders on when addressing any matter, but spoke as if he had taken them off. He spoke like he knew the world, but in reality he had barely been out of the churches service for 30 years. How out in the religious world can you be if you've never tried anything? Would you eat the same meal day in and day out? Well, he did, and seemed to like it. You're eating a different meal, but you've been eating it day-in-day-out for a long fucking time.
So me, I try my damndest to keep my blinders the hell off and under my bed, along with my third grade clarinet that'll never be played. I suggest you do the same, simply because life ain't worth getting all hung up on.
I taint my blood with different levels of religion. I live my life the way I think I should, the way I think God would approve of. I'm not a huge asshole, I don't cheat, steal, or hurt. I have yet to kill anyone, and I don't plan on any such thing. I don't believe in hell. Simply because if God is God, than why's he got to be all mean and terrible. can't he be a cool guy? Why can't God be laid back, drinking a cold iced tea on a beach somewhere, his surfboard lying next to him on the hot sand. If I were God, that's where I'd be.

I personally, I guess I'm more of a Pagan than anything else. I believe in energies and chanelling them, that sort of thing. I work with nature and the forces of life itself. There may be a higher being, I am open to that, but I also accept science. I believe we evolved from monkeys. All around us, we can see products of evolution. Even in crows.

As I have grown up and loved crows and fed them, generations of them took place, and through generations I can see their eyes are slowly moving closer to the front of their heads, like predatory birds. I've seen it in pictures of crows from around the world, and older pictures tend to show crows with eyes in placement like a sparrow or finch's -- directly on the side. The aspects of change are all around us.

A moth used to be coloured like bark -- from the forest. When the forest was cut down and replaced by a city, over time that moth EVOLVED its colour. It changed to reflect black markings, like soot and city grime...

I'm not completely rejecting the idea that we were originally created by a God of some kind, I just don't particularly subscribe to it. I am neither evil nor a 'lost soul,' in fact mine is quite found, thank you very much.

I find devout Christians like that to be more prejudiced than anyone I have seen in these forums, thank you. (I.e. Calling us all with false faith or atheists or all the rest of that garbage. It is no different than calling a black man a nigger.)

And the reference to Darth Maul got an audible laugh from me. Come on.
