Monogamy or Polygamy?
What are your views on Monogamy and Polygamy?
Do Christians have the right idea about monogamy, would it complicate things less? Do the Muslims have a point in saying that many lonely women on the streets of Western streets could become a respectable happier person finding safety and comfort in a polygamous marriage?

Well, if you're a male Hindu in the highest class, you can engage in massive kama sutra orgies. Otherwise, I believe monogomy is right due to my religion.

But to answer your question: monogamy is the only thing that will make you happy in the end (when you expect the same from your partner). UK |

Most men practice polygamy by nature. Especially when they're married.

I prefer monogamy. It's cool when you have one woman and is happy with you

I think that its best to stick with one person, you can tend to find a lot more happiness in that way.
Besides, imagine having 5 wives. The nagging... |

I think that everyone gets tired of one person eventually and loses interest in them romantically, regardless of what they want personally as a moral and upright human being. That's why lots of marriages end and lots of the ones that don't, they are unhappy. And the ones that do last, are because the couples are highly religious and god fearing, but they probably never have sex either

And in your later post quite true, late at night just before bed i am a depressed, homicidal, human-race hating thing from hell and i want the earth nuked. But i wake up and everything is in a different perspective. Your state of mind always reflects your views on things. Of course there are people who live by their routine and they fall deeply in love with someone who is the same way and they never tire of them. And good for them.

I think naturally, men are polygamous by nature and women monogamous. However, isn't resisting ancient urges part of what separates us from the animals? I'd (at least try to) stay monogamous, but other people can do whatever the hell they want with themselves.

Meh..it is natural to pick new mates....just look what some of the animals in the animal kingdom do.
Why is it wrong if it is just a natural instinct? |

It is only wrong when someone gets hurt in the process. If all parties involved or affected in whatever is going on are aware and consenting then it is not anyones place to judge them.

I don't see any problems with polygamy. I doubt I'll ever practice it, but I still don't see any problems.

Personally I don't see how one or the other are wrong. People who say "I believe that monogamy is right and polygamy is not because that's what my culture / religion says" I ask this question, why does it make it wrong? What is your definition of wrong? Morals that have been passed down to you or can you actually justify why you feel polygamy is wrong other than using an argument from the bible. For myself, I would rather be in a monogamous marriage, because I want to the find the one person I love and be with them for the rest of my life. |

Now would it matter then whether religion is involved or not? Yes, because I think it is unfair that a Muslim woman can not have 4 men. So it's pure discrimination. UK |

I am saying that that is the argument that could be used for SOME unmarried, and / or unhappy people who fall in love with another guy. No discrimination.

I think it's all a matter of preference. If a guy wants more than one wife, or a woman wants more than one husband, then more power to them. I think some people could be very happy with that kind of arrangement.
Personally, I prefer monogamy. I'm just a "one guy" kind of girl.
