I think its a mutated form of the Haffwitt disease in its late severe stages, quite possibly the Dimmwitt disease.

An old joke is that when someone posts an annoying thread everyone posts dinosaur pictures, then later on it became bunny pictures.

There might be a Winamp 4 in the future.

Development on Winamp 3 has not stopped. Nullsoft will continue to develop WA3 technology to incorporate into WA5, and may also revive the cross-platform project. By using the name Winamp 5, the number 4 is still available in case WA3 gets up to 3.99 and is still not fully merged into WA5.

Nar . . . doubt it.
Don't think there'll ever be a Winamp 4
Winamp3 is the product name, not Winamp v3
Winamp itself has gone from v2 to v5

Then again, if mp4 kicks off in a big way, you never know . . .

If you bothered to fucking search the forums, you would have come up with this, which clearly explains what everybody else said: Winamp 2+ Winamp3 = winamp5, becuase it is the Winamp 2 core with plugins for modern/freeform/wa3 skin support, cd ripping, and cd burning (Winamp 2 is much more stable because Winamp3 was written from the ground up, although both the WA2/5 and WA 3 projects will be continued, mainly because some users prefer WA3, WA5 is not 100% compatible with the wa3 skins, and Wasabi (Winamp3) components are not supported yet.

Winamp 5 was originally just a working name, although it looks like it will be its final name. Please, get your head out of the gutter and start talking like your in a civilized (sure...) setting, not on an AOL chatroom where nobody knows shit and just jabber about dumb things. Contrary to what you might believe, it is not cool to shorten every other word to two letters.

Dont worry BigL, that's just the way things work around here. If you ask a question that's been asked before, people think it's a waste of time answering it, so instead they waste their time by posting stupid replys...

By the way, flaming back isnt cool.

A flame is when someone loses their temper. Someone posts incoherant babble and adds 'you're fag' on the end and i politely give them some advice, with a slight tendency towards annoyance on the end.

DJ Egg, I realize that, but even though the product was called Winamp3, the version numbers started at 3.0, not 1.0. And if they have a version after 3.99, the only logical choice is 4.0.

Remember, even though the code base hardly changed from 1.x to 2.x, we refer to 2.0 and everything after as "Winamp 2", so it stands to reason that a version 4.0 would be "Winamp 4". It would be a little weird to call it Winamp3 4.

After releasing a Winamp 5, they're not gonna release a Winamp 4 at any time in the future. Now that'd really freak everyone out, lol

I honestly can't see Winamp3 ever getting to a .99 version.
Will there even be a Winamp3 v1.1 ???
I mean, regardless of internal builds, it's been 3+ years and we're still on the 1.0 release.
Hey, maybe Brennan's great great grandson will take it up to .99 ?

btw, I'm going by the properties of the .EXE file
winamp3.exe -> properties -> version tab:
Description = Winamp3
Version = 1.0.0.488
Product name = Nullsoft Winamp3
Product version = 1.0.0.488

But yeah, in the main window it says:
Nullsoft Winamp3 Version 3.0D

actually, winamp 4 was released a long while ago, but it was too buggy, so nullsoft pulled it. If you go on kazaa you can download it. You can also download a alpha release on kazaa of winamp 7, but it is very early. Last leaked beta on kazaa is winamp 6. Go ahead and try those out.

Posting a seemingly pertinent topic in Winamp as your first post is like going to Africa on Safari bringing only your B-B gun.

When WA2 jumped to WA3, it would prevent 2.99 from going to 3.
So if they make a WA5 then WA3 could just go up to WA3.99 until it becomes WA4, since WA4 is going to be skipped due to creative thiking
1,2,3,4,5,6 is what you'd think but NOOOO!
its
1/2/3/4/5/6 If that makes ne sense

easiest explanation is that there wont be further developments with the winamp3 title. anything coming from there will be something coming in AFTER winamp 5. winamp 4 will never exist.

timeline people:

winamp2 last release
winamp3/wasabi development
winamp3 released (incomplete)
winamp2 bugfixes and shit
winamp2 updated with some winamp3 stuff
winamp5 development
winamp5 released
------people happy with new winamp and no longer bitching about seeing updates
winamp3/wasabi further developed
winamp5/winamp3/wasabi update cycle
winamp6(placeholder) released

or something.

so why realeasing different versions at the same time?
why not finishing one project then continue with the other?
just like the in movies industry...(i.e. Robocop 1 then 2 then 3 then
4...exepct the matrix trilogy...well you know what i mean....)
is there a major difference between 3,4 and 5? basicly ,all Winamps
are for audio/video playback right? why jumping to another version
just for desing improvements?

OH god, here we go.

Winamp 2: Simplest version, will run on almost anything, pluss is the most funtional.

Winamp 3: Pritty eye candy version, requires a decent computer to run at its best. Also buggy to hell.

Winamp 5: Winamp 2 with eye candy, its the unholy child of winamp 2 and 3. Looks good, but I'll wait untill the bugs go before leaving 2.
