I want to open this thread for seeing the ancients's traces of countries.

Any body wants to show his ancients traces & his attractiveness of his country to the other members please add them to this thread.

Ancients traces: Old Buildings, old Squares, old Cities, Old Museum... Or any old traces that has attractiveness for seeing the other users.

Here's mine: Arak museum (Chahar Fasl's Bathroom).
Chahar fasl means four seasons.

Please contribute to this thread for showing the best ancient's traces to all of users.

Built in memory of the ANZACs (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) who died at Gallipoli, Papua New Guinea, etc. The flame shown in this photograph is called the eternal flame - it's powered by a gas line, and never goes out. Ever. It's nicely symbolic.

This one shows the pillars surrounding the eternal flame. It's quite moving standing there at dawn on ANZAC day, while the Last Stand (IIRC) is played on the bugle. The old timers are there.. 80 year old, hardened men can't stop crying. It's what I call powerful.

There are several close spots in West Virginia that have ancient rock carvings, which were apparently left be either Native Americans, or Irish/Celtic explorers. They have been estimated to be around 1500 years old, or about 800 years prior to when Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue.

The one attached to this post is at Lynco, in Wyoming County. Lynco is about 64 miles south from me, one counties south, and I’ve been there maybe twice in my life. Just for reference, here is a county map of WV. I live in northern Boone County (South of Charleston, written in orange). If I’ve ever been to the Boone Co. one, I don’t remember.

The Jelling Stones...

This stone was carved around year 940-950, and it's the oldest words from a danish king, and first time Denmark as a country is mentioned.

The runes on the inscriptions says

kurmr kunukr
karthi kubl thusi
aft thurui kunu sina
tanmarkar but

or

King Gorm made this monument in
memory of Thyre his wife, Denmark’s
adornment

traces of my ancients, in brief.

portugal as a nation came to be in the 12th century ad as a result of certain crusades to take the iberian peninsula back into christian hands from the hands of the moors.

it's not a pretty past: racial injustice, prejudice, religious wars, crusades. but after all that, portugal did end up contributing a lot to the world as it is today: it helped to explore the orient, india, africa, and america, thus making the world a smaller place.

As I'm English, there's probably a smattering of French, German, Scandinavian....hell, most of Europe really. The English really are the mongrols of Europe.
