Centuries are every 100 years, thus: 2000's, 1900's, 1800's. Decades are 10 years.

i know that people will disagree, but 90's has divercity. Alternative 90's music didnt seem to be caught down in any particular trend or movement.. no matter what style of music you are after, there are hundreds of amazing bands that fill.

While saying this, il admit i did have to think about it alot.. 60's was to insignificant. 00's dont count yet. 80's were fucking amazing, and prolly wil win the poll. 70's came very close.

All of my fave bands are from the 90's, and im into alot of music from all of these decades.

Definitely the 80's and 90's - 1780's and 90's that is. This was classic age of classical music- Mozart, and an emerging Schubert/ Beethoven.

1965 - 1990

after 1990 I ended keeping up with new release. only released cd's of my fav groups are still kept update.
when rap,house and that kinda music started i turned off the old radio.

Well, 1989 was when the mainstream went pants, and alternative took over. I'd say 1991 was the best ever year for music, there was a band starting-up every week. Having said that, 1994 and 1997-2000 (half of the 90's) were dire. More style than substance.

2001-03 have picked-up sharply, but nothing that's any good makes it into the mainstream. Journals like NME are slow to catch on as well.

You'll get a variety of answers to any favorite era due mainly to the fact that your experiences during any given era lend a great deal in the factor of like/hate.
For example, I love music from all decades although I had the most fun and best memories during/while listening to 80's rock.
I had the fantasy of going back so I could relive the music of that decade but then realized it was the times themselves that I loved.

well, when i say insignificant, i mean there was less to choose from, and less greatness about then in all the other decades. Simply because the music industry is a far bigger thing nowdays.

Quite. The beauty about 2003 is you have everything new and everything that's gone before at your disposal. Sometimes I don't know if that's good or bad though, the choice is bewildering.

Everything from the 70's to the present was influenced in some way by the music of the 50's and 60's. That's when rock and pop were born. That would make the 60's the most important decade in rock music. It was also the best in my opinion.

Quite so. But I assumed we were talking about contempory music here, given the decade choices presented by richardharris. I think the decades of the Baroque Era (1600 to 1750) were probably the best decades in music. And Baroque was a definite influence on the Beatles.
