When you die
I don't think this has been asked before exactly. Please feel free to post blatant links to the similar topics if it has, but I don't know exactly what I'd search for to check.
Everyone has theories on what happens when you die, and obviously they can't all be correct. Actually, they could all be correct, assuming that when you die whatever you think will happen to you will happen, although in that case there's no justice. In that case there's just us. In that case you might go to hell just because you expect to. And that doesn't cover people who have no idea, unless those people just...die. So, opinions and stuff? Do we reincarnate? Do we go to heaven/hell/pergatory? Think of that song from The Meaning of Life. Just though I'd get your opinions. |

theory 1: reincarnation - it could be a way to balance the inbalances of life, where you can treat people like poo, and then you get "karma-ed" in your next life, or vice-versa...
theory 2: heaven and roaming spirits - where you either go to heaven or hell, or perhaps stay on earth as sometype of etheral ghost-like ghost, where earth, in a way, can be considered limbo. theory 3: nothing - where you simply just cease to exist, no more nothing. |

jasonl: I agree to freedom of speech so i'm not going to go BLANTENTLY against what you stated above...i'll just leave it at:
"Judging by the options above I think you'd fit the 1st Catagory" -->If someone being tracking my posts they'd probably know my thoughts on religion, and i'm still not convinced that some supreme being made everything and that people are sorted into places when they die... I think dying would be much like destroying a computer: "Once it's off it can't do anything, it no longer has a purpose" |

Timezone8, Are you saying I have no brain?
Alright, so it wasn't very constructive. I guess I'm kind of tired of seeing people express their ridiculous opinions so openly. Reincarnation, someone want to give me a rationale behind this? And I agree with your computer-death analogy. We are essentially (very) sophisticated computers. People don't like it, but we are. So then we could go into the whole Determinism stuff and blah blah by the end everyone ends up more stubborn about their beliefs than when they started the debate. Asking questions like, what happens when we die is "like a blunt pencil - it doesn't have a point." |

I believe when you're dead, you cease to exist....
so it's all about making the best of the live you had, it's my oppinion that religion was created for people to accept a shitty existance, cause it would get better in the afterlife. If god really exist, i don't think i'd have a problem either, cause i allways try to do what i think is best, be nice to people around me. If he exists and can't accept that - then i don't want to go to heaven anyway. |

there is no heaven or hell...everything depends on proof remember...beliefs don't matter..religion is only there just keep the shreds of humanity left together..and hence comes the questions of life after death, reincarnation, spirits and the shit goes on...

All the logic and sense in my brain says that once you die, the electricity stops flowing, the patterns stop getting recognised, you cease to think and thus, cease to exist.

But then how do you guys know then...have you cease to exist for short amount of time? Or come close to death? I think not, cause you're all sitting here posting away on this forum.
I believe on the second option. That we have spirits/souls/past lives. When the resources of our physical nature are exhausted we transfer to another resource. Usually a baby. Or an animal. Like Poetry and art? Visit my DeviantArt Site: www.lilithlairpoetry.deviantart.com |

That is a ridiculous statement. It boils down to the idea that we have no idea what happens when you die, because we stubbornly believe one thing and accept nothing else. bah. Who cares. I'll find out when it happens. |

keeping a skeptical point of view on this subject is rather impossible, as most of yous believe in something that happens (or a lack of something) when you die.
Skepticism is no good it get the discussion going nowhere Quote:

When I die, my soul will have no more use for this container. It is my belief that my soul will travel to the Summerlands. I will rest there, and learn about what I did right and what I did wrong in this life. When it's time, I will come back in another body to live another life. Why do I believe this? Because I don't think the life I have now is a "one shot, all or nothing" deal. How could I possibly be expected to learn everything I'm supposed to and get it right in just one life? Life is a do-over. Death is only the end of one cycle, and the start of another.

I don't really believe in a heaven or hell, but I think when you die, you "create" your own heaven or hell, if that's what you wanna call it...
Quoting Metallica's "Frantic"; "My lifestyle determines my deathstyle". How you live is what you do after you die, to me anyway... A very close Japanese friend I knew a while ago once said to me "Watashi no koto wo oboeta, onegai shimasu...Yakusoku?" I forgot his name though... |

i believe that theres nothing left after death. but maybe there is reincarnation and we just don't know it. maybe when we are reincarnated, we lose all memory of our previous life or even having a previous life.
@shenlong: nice metallica quote there i'll try and think of another one for this. theres some really deep meanings in some of the old songs
