Remakes of old hits

What is your opinion on remakes of old hits of past artists, by either the same or a different artist in the future?

One instance would be 'Cruel Summer':

Original track: Bananarama - Cruel Summer (in the 80s)
Remake: Ace of Base - Cruel Summer (in 1997)

I prefer the original track due to it's authentic 80s tune & rhythm to it; whereas the remake is more of a dance mix, which spoils the rhythm/theme of the song.

Any other remakes you'd like to mention?

about everything that came out of the dance scene from 96 until now

it's all covers of former 80's songs

most terrible one I heard was a remake of Ultravox - dancing with tears in my eyes

Each Thursday a new show on Celtica Radio with Darkwave music.

Haha.. that brings me back to my point about the 'Boys of Summer" remixes. A year back or so, someone released a "trance" remake of Boys of Summer. DJ Sammy, I believe. That's bad enough in itself.

All remakes ain't bad.
Boyzone have done some good work like
Baby can I hold you tonight
No matter what
Words
And all of them are better than the originals specially they made somes change in rhythms which are absolutely superb!
But I know you guys will never agree with me coz you hate boy-bands no matter what how good songs they re-produce time to time.Only because you all hate boy-bands.
I also don't care.
No matter what.

All pop music is good music but all good music isn't pop music

It's a boy-band, and once again, they have no talent.

lmao

i was reading this post and at the time i was disagreeing cause i was playing the remix on my station when i read it was so funny to me. Oh well to each his on. lol. thanks for the laugh this is for the first person who posted on this page. ^^ up top ^^ the cruel summer remix but i also like the original. remixes are cool if you think about it everything is remixed look at the toys they are coming out with today for kids some of them i remember from when i was a kid and they are acting like they are new "New" but they are not. they are just re introducing them cause the kids today never seen them before. remember when bell bottoms came back or "Daisy Dukes" came back. i knew you'd like that one well they bring stuff back cause they knew we liked it so the figured kids today would like the same toys we did. but the daisy dukes thing is just an example cause i know we are all grown up here. Or are we i still play with lego's and they still sell them too. so remixes are just another way to re introduce a good thing. enough said.

It's a mixed bag. I own loads of remakes that are as good as the originals. What pisses me off are the ones that offer nothing new, the limp, lame, money-grabbing exercises.....

Atomic Kitten - Eternal Flame

Atomic Kitten - The Tide is High

Sugarbabes - Are Friends Electric

Youngsters these days are being ripped off.

The No Doubt version of Talk Talk - It's My Life is actually quite good.

80's covers are usually screwed right up.

So, hats off to No Doubt.

That was a horrible cover. On top of that, those girls are trading on false pretences - Two of them are definitely not babes, and they're more sickly than sweet. 12 year old girls are definitely being short-changed by this example of frivolous pap. Er, pop.

I like Metallica's cover on "So What" (Although I forgot who's the original artist)...

Pennywise also makes a good cover on "Surfin' USA" and "Wouldn't It Be Nice" (From the Beach Boys)...

Marilyn Manson does a pretty decent job on the Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams". I despise most of Manson's music, but this one is good.

Another good one: Disturbed's cover of "Shout" by Tears For Fears.

Manson ruined the cover on the Ramones' "The KKK Took My Baby Away"...

My dad bought this album called "Mutations", which was a cover on Alice Cooper's songs...

$20 wasted...Shoulda gave it a test listen before buying, but we learned out lesson now...Why was it wasted? It was a techno remix...

ALICE COOPER, DAMMIT!!!

I stand corrected. They're playing The Cure's "Love Song" on the radio right now, and I remember hearing it before.

I saw that from "Crossroads" when I was flipping through the channels once...

And she tried to dress "punk"!

I quite liked Marilyn Mansons cover of Tainted Love. I don't like much of his stuff but this sounded good.

I agree that a lot of cover versions are worse than originals (as said above Atomic Kittens covers). I also agree with the boy bands having no talent bit, they would be better if they learnt to play some intruments (or even learn to sing...)
