Which anti-virus do you use?

I use McAfee Virus scan Home edition........but not quite satisfied with it.So,I've to double check with the latest version of stinger(Avert).I'm searching for a better anivirus protection.
So which anti-virus do you use? Do you think its ok?I mean, are you satisfied with it?
May be I can use that antivirus if its good enough

Norton Antivirus 2003.
Can't remember exactly how much it is per year but it's not toooo much, although not really cheap either. However I've found it to be really good.
I can have it running in the background the whole time without any noticable performance loss, and it picks up any viruses or anything straight away - I remember downloading a file off kazaa once and it picked it up as a virus before it'd even finished downloading. Although of course I only have Norton's word that it *was* a virus. Plus of course you can do normal scans of specific files and stuff.

I dont install any anti-viruses.. all these new ones like Norton and that other one is bloatware, slow down my box even @ 1.5 ghz and 256mgs of ram. Best anti-viruse is common sense.. and maybe a firewall like TinyPersonal Firewall.

Been using computers for years... if you are the only one using your PC I suggest no anti-virus program. Common sense is best anti-virus. Just scan your .exe install files online with :

so true, I wish I had that option but my little brother and his friends use this computer when im not home so I use Norton Antivirus 2003.

Common sense doesn't protect you from everything. Simply going to a website can give you a virus.

I don't use ANY anti-virus software whatsoever or firewall programs, I just don't download *crap* and monitor my connections in DOS to see if there are any attacks... although when someone else uses this computer I find that I have to re-install from all the freakin spyware adware that the fkrs download, DAMN IT's annoying, other than that Anti-Virus software is a waste of money RAM and CPU usage and should only be used for networks where you have to monitor a shitload of little kiddies downloading crap.

Meanwhile some guy found a way to prevent a copyright(anti-burning-software) from stopping him illegaly copy CD's by using the SHIFT key at startup, although that method is common knowledge to some, he was sued because the company spent a lot making such a program

Funny though, how my system resourses arent being wasted. Current CPU usage on this Pc is hovering around 5%, and only 10% of memory used.

As for the other PC, CPU is around 25% (winamp and IRC going), and memory is about 26%.

And as for "thoes scanners", it's only 1. And if it's being used, it isnt being wasted.

With Norton enabled in the background , I'm getting 00 CPU usage, with about 6.5megs of memory used. That's pretty much nothing, although this is on a 1.7Ghz PC.
I agree that common sense is best, but it's good to have something to back you up. I've only ever got I think two viruses in my life, but in both cases it's good to be able to get rid of them easily with a virus scanner. Plus it's really good if you're on a LAN - I've had to block viruses from other people's computers more than once.

And all those typical anti-virus program like Norton ,McAfee, Pc-cillin........I've used them.They are good but don't work against all kind of Viruses.
Thats why I use Stinger with McAfee.Its very good against some viruses which the typical anyi-virus programs used to skip.And anyone can use it ........you don't need to even install it......jsut download and use.

I don't bother with Anti-Virus software, Firewalls, or anything else for that matter. Windows does a fine job of mucking itself up on it's own, long before any virus has a chance to wreck havoc.

The reason why I don't get viruses is because I don't use the software that's vunerable (like Outlook, bleh) to security holes and the such. Hell, I'm going to start using a Mac for most of my email in the next week. A sure fire way to avoid PC viruses is to avoid the PC.

Norton will miss Trojans and other stuff. Is 30+MB's of resource hogging crap and thats without the firewall--What the F&** do they need to make it so big for? and McAfee ain't much better..:YuK:

When AVG is Free, about 4-5 mb's and does what it's supposed to ( Caught a trojan that norton had missed numerous times when I first changed!) AVG with Zone Alarm -both downloadable free and I have never had a problem-
I put that on all my customers computers and I have never had a complaint.
Once you show the user how to update (which isn't hard-well not allways ) then there happy --probably the free bit that does that...

Bah. I do not use Anti-virus. I've been infected with a virus 3 times. One of the times, Anti-virus might have saved me, but I was stupid. I ran something I suspected was infected with a virus. The other two times, I couldn't get any anti-virus to even detect that there was a problem, including at least three of the newest major ones. I would up submitting those two to Norton or someone, and fixing the problem myself.

So the major system drain by an anti-virus is not worth it.

When I first got into PC’s MacAfee seemed to be preinstalled on everything. I had some problems with it and ended up getting Norton, which seemed to work better. And since I reformat my computers 2-3 times a year the subscription never expires. I am currently using Norton Systemworks 2003 with the virus autoprotect the only thing that loads at startup. It uses about 7mb of memory. And I run Zonealarm, the free version, and have a hardware firewall helping protect our home LAN. If my computer starts acting up like I have a virus or trojan or something I will run housecall as a backup, it caught a virus last year on one of our computers that Norton wasn’t picking up.
Like a number of forum members said the biggest part of staying virus free is common sense. Don’t download and run files from sources you don’t trust, read and understand every popup before clicking on the close/okay/whatever button, don’t use email/browsers that 90% of people use (MS products, most virus/exploits are written specifically to work with these products) and know/understand the security settings built into the products you use. Since we are one a home LAN with kids I will be using auto virus protection for some time.

I used to use a Pentim III with 128Mb RAM... at that time windows used something like half of the memory ... or less .. i cant remember ...
Now I'm running ona an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ with 256 MB and Windows now uses more RAM than in my Pentium III ... What happens ?!

Different version of Windows? Also, using more memory is not necessarily bad. It could mean that it's not caching as much to the hard drive (which is a good thing - not doing it as much, that is).
