Retrostation Television

There's currently a test stream on Internet TV that repeatedly plays...

[1] The old ATV jingle (showing the lightspots and "IN COLOUR")

[2] Video cuts out (audio of old ATV logo continues) to go to a black screen with the text "The following is a presentation of Retrostation Television"

Looks like a (planned) Shouty of old UK television programmes (ATV being a British TV company from the olden days), but I can't find anything Googling for 'Retrostation Television' and the URL on Shoutcast.com's info doesn't work (neither does Java chat on there btw, well not for me anyway {Windows XP Home, Service Pack 1, Mozilla 1.5, Sun's Java2 Engine})

Anyone know what it's about, perhapos the person running the stream's reading?!

I think they were playing bits of space 1999 SciFi tv show late last night. The station was just labeled ( Test ) however.

That would be cool to have a 24 / 7 station like that on NSV.

anything old and goofy will be good. archive.org has tons of old films & stuff that would be great.

http://www.archive.org/movies/movies...rom=mostViewed

that's a start. anything like that would kick butt.

Hi everyone:

I like the idea of those old commercials, though I don't like 'em all bunched up like the ones you see on the site mentioned above. Get yourself an FTP client and put in those FTP addresses you see listed. Then just look hard enough and you'll find INDIVIDUAL commercials.

I found a slew of old Folgers Coffee and Crest Toothpaste commercials from the 1960s this way.

the drawback is they're either in MPEG-4 or MPEG-2 SVCD format and the screen sizes are rather large, but once ya run 'em through TMPGenc, they're NO problem at all to convert at all into NSV.

I also found a 1960 Kennedy-Nixon Debate this way too (Dunno if it's THE historic one though, but it has Howard K. Smith as moderator). I downloaded both sections of that too and encoded a copy into NSV format (after joining the two parts together that is! ).

Cheers for now & Happy Holidays

i just ran the big file through FlaskMPEG for NSV (comes with NSV tools) and split them up that way, and encoded them into different files in one operation. its not the easiest program for noobies to use (so i've been told, i've been using it for years) but you can take one of those multi-segment mpeg-2 files, and create seperate jobs for it to do, encode each file seperately, and then push Flask it! and walk away.

i like it.

I wached two full episodes of Space 1999 late last night on it. It was fantastic to see it. I really enjoyed your retro station!
Keep up the good work! It came in nice and clear here with no buffering at all.

Suggestion,

You might want to "cycle" your programming rotation / schedule so that viewers from both sides of the atlantic get a chance to watch all the shows.

Nights should be considered prime time, so adjust the schedule accordingly for europe then follow with a service for the americas.

Weekends can be add hoc, try running a mixed schedule with
the possibility of doing a repeat run for viewers who didnt catch the first round.

Great Great Great concept. Love the trailers and promos your running.

Good Luck

One of the best streams on there!

How about...

Proper 1970's ITV style startup... "This is Retrostation Television, providing your programmes on international transmitters of the Shoutcast Network " Maybe present the whole thing in the style of a 70s ITV station (well, you did use the old ATV jingle...)

and programmes...

More Gerry Anderson! cannot knock him, not just Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet but Space 1999, UFO and Terrahawks (I remember the last one from when I was a kid)

The Avengers (Diana Rigg was very nice back in them days)

The Goodies (Goody goody yum yum)

Q (old Spike Milligan TV show)

Robin of Sherwood (excellent Robin Hood series made by the Welsh, well HTV)

All I can think of at the mo...

Perhaps some old classic Children's TV shows too!

Jamie and The Magic Torch
Murphy's Mob
Knightmare (Dungeons and Dragons style game show for kids - www.knightmare.com )
Ulysees 31
Monkey! (dubbed Japanese show)

If you haven't heard of any of these 'classics' it's probably I'm running off at the mouth naming my favourite TV shows from my childhood in UK!

Thank you SOOOOO much!
All requests will be granted as soon as possible... I wanted to see if it would generate some interest and get the encoding/streaming stuff down before i really launched it officialy... Have a kick butt website in the works... want to get everything good then launch officialy.... Im just "teasing" right now.. I have thought about the "worldwide" audience so your suggestions will be put into use.. I dont want to be just a one program source, so I want to have a good amount of programming in the can so to speak... Want it to have a cool retro feel, i still have not hit on the look I want just yet, but its coming along.. If anyone has suggestions, comments, offers of old promos etc, just send em my way... Thanks for the support!!!!

www.tv-ark.co.uk has a lot of video clips of ITV presentation (they are all in Real Player tho :/ )

According to that site, the Patrick McGoohan show was called (over here) Danger Man and (over there) Secret Agent

How about Supergran! It'll probably be the only Tyne Tees show you have on there... unless you edit some TTTV idents!

RS
TV

The Champions
Ghostwatch (BBC drama that was shown as a Halloween investigation of a haunted house, they faked it as a live thing using real BBC presenters, Michael Parkinson, Sarah Green) well maybe more for Halloween than this time of year

Red Dwarf's alreadt been aired by Salt Water Chimp but how about Blake's 7?

RED DWARF!

w00t lol.

I once owned every single episode of Red Dwarf. (that a lot of nights on kazaa lite!)

I lost them in a dodgey format.
Now i only have series 8 and the special episodes (like Can't Smeg, Won't Smeg). I also have all the DVDs that have been currently released (1,2 and will be out soon ).

As i type in encoding the AVIs of series 8 into NVS for my stream

Hi everyone:

You're willing to allow others to broadcast your videos LC? If so, where's your website so I can download the source videos?

In exchange, I'd be happy to submit my cam blogs when I update them if you have a way for someone to upload videos to you in return.

Cheers for now & Happy Holidays everyone

Hopefully I can get a lot converted over the weekend, so far I've only got a couple of promos done. Most of my time's been taken up by trying to find a way to get the bugger online with Freeserve!

I'm in the process of getting the website up and running - I'll try create a special guest area only certain peeps can access. There you can feel free to download any source vids.

Be careful with those freebie website hosts. My site is on Tripod, though I have all my multimedia stuff on the space allocated to me by my ISP (Comcast) because their FTP servers don't crap out in the middle of uploads like the one on Tripod does.

Cool. Right now, my vids will be up and down, mostly because of the lack of a REAL randomizer within NSV and I'm getting tired (REAL tired) of having to MANUALLY randomize a fuckin' playlist EVERY time I put my vids online, but I'll be GLAD to consider adding your source vids to my programming (especially if we get to upload source vids to you for broadcast).

Getting back to the randomization issue for a moment, CHRISTOPHER - When do you guys plan on adding randomization to NSV itself? Ken's GUI (and I think slavas' too) support it, but NSV ITSELF does not. When is this going to change?

Cheers for now

When I use Kens gui it tends to stay on the top vid in the play list and keeps playing that one over and over, doesnt seem to automaticly go to the next in line in the play list after the one above is finished, thats what I have found with mine anyway, maybe Im doing something wrong?

For me, it just plays each video in the order they're listed. Same thing happens with Slavas' GUI too.

Jeeper, I'm not sure if it will fix the problem, but I'm changing things around that might remedy your situation.

DJB, does it always do that, even when randomize is off? If you can copy paste everything from your DOS window and send to me I might be able to talk a look at whats happening. PS: be sure to remove your password and everything before you send. e-mail: ken52787@rochester.rr.com
