What have you learnt in the last 12 months?

To start my own very very long list....

In the last 12 months, I've learnt:

1. Detroit Techno's back.
2. Saint Etienne are far more consistent than I'd thought.
3. There are more electroclash bands than spieces of frog.
4. Tuxedomoon are a New Wave band.....
5. There are at least 10 International Deejay Gigolos compilations.
6. There are at least 10 Nova Tunes compilations.
7. Not backing-up files is rather foolish.
8. Dreampop didn't die - it moved to the US.

enough for now.

Heaps

1. apola and her boy-bands are extremely annoying.
2. Boy-bands suck nuts for money, but I always knew that.
3. That the people of this forums, Cylob, spaceplay etc, are wonderful people with good taste in music.
4. Rush are a great band, along with Tool
5. That the drummer in SlipKnoT uses the best drumsticks in the world http://www.bigbangdist.com/ahead_st.htm

found a place ( a little messed up at the moment) with some great people to hang around with.

@taylor you forgot one major thing - the coffee
and i agree on the first two of your points

also the new Neil Young album - Greendale yet again is only for the real fans - no airplay.

learnt about a great number of bands i did not know even were there.
(thank you to several people in the alphabet threads)

Each Thursday a new show on Celtica Radio with Darkwave music.

1.This forum can be named as a anti-boy band forum..easily.
2.But the people are not that bad.....I really like them so I'm trying to do something for them.Like introducing pop music and boy-bands .....
3.BSB and NSync has really broke-up (lets give them a farewell, guys....stand up....pin drop silence....think of them & all the contributions...lets hope they will live in our heart for ever....thanks)
4.Justin Timberlake got a wonderful comeback.
5.Britney and Madonna have gone mad.
6.Beckham can live without Red Devils(Sorry for mentioning it here......but its the most shocking thing I've learnt this year )

All pop music is good music but all good music isn't pop music

10. That Wannadies album I was going to buy in '97 (but didn't) turned out to be excellent. *slap* for not buying it at the time.
11. A Broadband/SoulSeek combination results in acquiring alot of music very quickly.
12. MediaMonkey runs rings around winamp.www.mediamonkey.com
13. Drum n Bass is crap.

In terms of music...

•I can play bass guitar
•But my fingers are too fat to play electric guitar
•Thin picks suck for bass
•My Kingston looks like a Fender P-Bass
•I need a Marshall bass amp
•As well as a Digitech bass modulator
•I play bass "the wrong way" (With my thumb, sometimes)
•Michael Kamen is dead
•Most new bands since 2000 suck
•And Emo's crap too
•And even though I can't play guitar, I love the Gibson Les Paul "Fuel" (Iron Cross James Hetfield signature guitar)
•I want a 5-string Fender P-Bass, but one of those will run me $1000...

And I've learned about 20-30 new bands to appreciate and listen to since then...

I found my dad watching channel v (music channel) last night, which was quite a shock

1.that Zildjian are perhaps the worlds greatest cymbals
2.you don;t have to be a metal player to use double bass drums
3. i actually enjoying playing to swing
4.Live concerts are much better than what i thought they would be
5. that everbody goes through the boy band stage
6. the boy band stage only lasts a year max (perhaps apola is an execption to this rule)
7. drumming is the coolest pastime in the world (though i've known this for a while

Super Toast: 2. Almost all US Techno sucks

Try Deepsky, BT, DJ Shadow, Rabbit in the Moon, Deep Dish, DJ Micro, Thievery Corporation. I'm pretty sure those are all american.

I have learned that you should never move in with someone who you know has been unreliable in the past but has claimed to have changed. That person is a fucking LIAR.

I have also learned that Oslo Nights is an amazing radio show. DJ Elusive is awesome.

Nice one. I didn't have a hope with my old man - he was into motown. He'd never appreciate Pop Will Eat Itself or The New Fast Automatic Daffodils. His loss.

I've bought the boys a CD player each for xmas. This is a measure of their taste....

Josh wants a Curve CD, Carter - The Cure, and Wesley - BRMC. I'll be burning many a disc for the dudes.
