Additional Media Library features

Mass export playlists
Choose directory in which to export all selected ML playlists. Saved filename = playlist name. Very useful for backing up all your playlists; something essential in the absence of an Undo button.

Highlight current track
If the currently playing track is present in the current ML view or playlist, highlight it (like in the playlist editor).

Monitor directories for new activity
Rather than a "rescan every xxx", wouldn't it be easier if WinAmp just monitored every new addition/modification in each ML directory? User-enabled option, perhaps?

Special ML View linked to the Playlist Editor
Always shows files currently in the Playlist Editor... tracks removed & added in the PE are changed in this view, and tracks removed & added in this view are added to the Playlist Editor. (I'm sure this is a popular request, since it's news to alot of WA5 users that importing the current playlist doesn't work like this.)

Integrate 'J' functions into the ML
Sure, there is a search function, but when you find & play a file with the search function, the current playlist will only contain the songs which fulfilled that search criteria. With the Jump commands you can play that one song you're looking for & still keep the full view in the playlist.

Automatically update views upon changes to the library (add/remove/song info modification)
Self-explanatory

Open new ML window
Either this, or the ability to have multiple playlists/views open in the Media Library.

non-ML:

Update ID3 tags in background
When rewriting an entire file due to ID3v2 tags exceeding their padding, please close the ID3 editing dialog & perform this in the background. (Obviously a file currently being played will still not be able to be played while rewriting occurs.) It is so SLOW editing a lot of ID3 tags that cannot be done with blanket commands, when you have to wait for each file to rewrite itself before WinAmp will respond to your commands.

Despite numerous suggestions for improvement, I must go out of my way to thank the whole WinAmp/Nullsoft team for the great media player that they have made so far (and will hopefully continue)!

Mass export playlists
Added to list

Highlight current track
It was a decision by the developers to keep the Media Library just as a library and not a playlist replacement. Therefore the Media Library is not aware of the currently playing track. Don't expect this to change ever.

Monitor directories for new activity

Turn the time down lower. But if you doit to much it really becomes overly processor intensive. There are third party plugins that do this though, search for "On the DL"

Huh?

Can you add the ability to browse by Genre->Artist->Album? A simple checkbox toggle in the preferences dialog would suffice I think. This way I wouldn't have to add a new view for every genre I have...

Drat, I was hoping that the ML could do exactly that: replace the playlist editor. I rarely have to use the playlist editor anymore, and when I must it's always an annoyance that it won't interface with the ML. I think the devs are making a mistake by deliberately sticking with two inconsistent interfaces, but there isn't anything I can do about their decisions. =/

Huh? No explanation? I hate losing my place in a long playlist or media view when I have to momentarily switch over to another. Perhaps a "remember last position in list" option then? I'm not sure how that would be practically programmable, considering how media views & playlists being so easily mutable: losing a track, adding another, changing the info, resorting...

Eliminate the need to go out & back to refresh a media view. How it is configured now, you have to manually scan your library folders for new updates, wait some time until the folders have been rescanned (there is no notification of a finished scan), choose a different media view/playlist, and then re-select the desired media view. Cumbersome++; The media library knows when it finds new/modified files, how hard would it be to auto-insert new files into the current media view as it scans?

That's exactly why I'm looking for an option to monitor all changes to the ML directories, rather than to re-scan every single file at short intervals. I've seen other programs do it easily. (BTW, I searched for On the DL, and it adds files to the playlist editor, it has nothing to do with updating the ML.) It seems like such a trivially easy feature for the devs to add.

So... I must export the playlist to the playlist editor, search for the desired song(s) in there, and if I made any changes, import the current playlist to the ML, delete the old playlist from the ML, and rename the newly imported playlist?
Maybe not J, but *some* simple search function in the ML would be nice.
