I am thinking of registering winamp Pro, but I jusy have a question about future versions.

If I register now, will I have to register again if a new major version comes out (winamp 6?), I know that the people from before had to, but apparently that was because it was a different company or something of that sort. Anybody know what the deal with this is going to be?

since it seems you haven't actually researched anything...the ONLY thing you are paying for in Pro is full speed burning and ripping to mp3...the only way you would have to pay again is if another closed source music format is released and used in Winamp.

remember, all you pay for is ripping to mp3 and burning at full speed.

no, I looked all over the site for something on this, but there is nothing saying that all future upgrades are included, or all future upgrades are not included. this page says what it has, not what it doesnt. Hence I am asking on these forums about it....

My major concern with paying now is that if winamp 6 comes out with some extra feature which requires payment, will I have to repay for burning, ripping, and the new feature, or will there be some in between registration? I dont want to repay again for ripping, and some other feature I will probably not want just to get the new version.

At a guess, no, you won't ever have to pay for burning & ripping again...

I just bought it anyway, so I guess it doesnt really matter much anyhow.
I just dont want to end up like those poor musicmatch customers who have to pay 20$ everytime the crappy thing is updated.

uh...Well when I bought musicmatch it offered lifetime upgrades. Nothing really new was added but I've updated from 4 to 8.02 Only paying once. Still a crappy media player but I only paid once.

Last time I looked (a few days ago) they made you pay an extra 40$ for all future upgrades, plus the initial 20$ registration fee...

Well I have long since uninstalled Musicmatch. I still however have the installer and the serial key I used. I shall check.

Seemed fine. I had the old 7 installer. Upgraded to 8.02 without having to pay anything additional.

Also on the website it says.. "for a one-time fee of only $19.99"

I guess they upped the price of the upgrade extra. I think when I got it they had it for only 10 or 15 bucks extra.

i'm sorry, but why pay for Pro? i mean CDex is a great free ripping/coverting software, and who doesn't have burning software already?

maybe they don't want to use 3 programs when 1 can do it all. Or maybe they want to support Nullsoft.

I have no problem paying for the extra features, I have been a loyal user of winamp ever since geiss v1 (whenever that was), and I have always liked. And at least winamp doesnt force you to go pro like some other players. Musicmatch will put
CLICK HERE TO UPGRADE TO PRO all over the damn thing, winamp gives you a choice without screwing up all the other features.

It actually does it very well. At least if you're only burning Audio CD's, and seeing as it's an Audio /player/ that shouldn't be too big a deal. I actually like the ripping quite a bit, just the fact that it overwrites the files instead of keeping the old and fubaring the new name is a godsend for me. Just because I'm reripping my files to a higher bitrate.

CDex doesn't rip to AAC...

if you have something like the psytel aac encoder you can but it's external to CDex..it's nothing native

i don't use AAC, actually i almost always rip to wav, i know it takes up lots of space, but then after i burn it again, o stop listening to it i'll convert to mp3 at about 192

I would say that it is worth it to register Pro, although i am not too happy with it on the first day ive had it. When i go to burn a cd, it says that the decoder cannot be used for burn. My first guess was that it was being used...right?? WRONG.. I would like to know why there is such a bs FAQ ob this site... also, INCLUDE MP3 BURNING!

you can't burn a MP3 or data cd only audio cd's .. that's prolly it right there ... if it's not then I got no clue sorry ..but I hope that fixes stuff for ya

Vorbis and FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) are just file formats that the music is encoded in.

OGG is the "container" format that's used to bundle data (like ID3 tags, cept way better), metadata (like lyrics), and even image files (like covers, html bios, etc) in with the audio. There's also talk of OGG MIDI (though why I haven't the faintest idea), and another format that's used for realistic speech.
